Overall, mid.
A couple things, that are great: 9-month lease, clean hall, big windows (that happend to face directly to hotel), study space, gym, etc. Those I encourage you to take a tour and findout yourself.
Things to consider: utility might be falling apart? When we first moved in, hot water was not ready, we did not fill out a survey for what is damaged in the house), a bathroom tile is about to fall (literally standing there), the dryer won't work, toilet cloggs because ex-tenent might've flushed cat litter down, sink leakage... At the time we got to know the utility person, T, since we are seeing him very regularly. He is nice, but his solution seems to be using silicone gel to cover everything that leaks, which maybe caused some later issue. Then, we got our disposal replaced without notice (we didn't even know it's happending) during vacation, but we felt greatful about it. Soon, the sink really starts to act up (ex-tenent oil clog) so bad that we'd wake up to water and bubble overflowing because we turned on dishwasher. John was helpful, and had a plumber to fix it.
With that to say, things might not be as new.
Safety: Other comments brought up package theft, that is true. Another part of it is they are trying to push you to pay for the locker, which we didn't want to pay, then they (or delivery) would still put it so you can never get the package. There are homeless community around, often just outside of the fireplace since it's warm. Occationally they'd nap in the common area but only a couple times.
Management Overall okay, office time is unpredictable but their email communication when I was living there was ok. However, it's been almost 3 months since John asked me for an address to send security deposit to. I offered to pick it up but no email back, called but no one picked up, and left a message where Lindsay said she sent and follow up tp John. It seems like this is a common theme, so just trying to provide perspectives.
With this, good luck...
Read moreLike some others, I agree that this apartment was great until recently. While security, package thefts, etc. are somewhat of a problem, those issues tend to be happening more generally in the area. There may be other minor things, but the biggest change towards the negative is the newest manager. I've probably had a number of managers here before this, and all had been good or great. They were very friendly and approachable. Karen was great, and she was the last management team member I got to know. She seemed to know everybody and greet everyone including about how their pets are doing, how their recent move back for semester was, etc. It shows she cares genuinely. With the new guy, honestly, don't even know his name and he never seems to be around. You don't get the impression he wants to be near people or deal with them (and he rarely seems to acknowledge your presence when you walk by him in the lobby, which is rare), and that isn't exactly what people want in an apartment manager. You have to realize that many tenants here are young and often foreigners. This might be their first real apartment outside of home or their dorms. Having a manager that is approachable and cares is important in apartments like these catering to a younger and more international crowd. Seeing the number of move outs and the relative emptiness of the garage sometimes, I do wonder how many people have simply just left for other places even if it's further from campus or pricier. The property itself is plenty fine and most of the other tenants are nice and polite too though so hopefully things get...
Read moreA nice, clean, and well-maintained apartment. It's slightly off the main areas like University or Washington Ave, so it's quieter, but it's also not isolated which is nice when going out when it's dark. My room faces the back / hotel so it's especially quiet, and given how noise-sensitive I am during sleep, it's been great. The apartment has a small gym with a cable machine / pullup bar, some free weights, and stationary bikes, etc. There's also a common area inside and a nice coffee machine (which you get to use for free), as well as some grills and such on the 2nd floor. The price for rooms are competitive, and it's a good choice for people who don't want to pay for excessive amenities they won't use (if I want a full workout, I would need a fully equipped gym anyway, so I use this gym for some rehab and warmup.)
The apartment managers have all been super friendly and helpful, and the current one, Bradley, has been great! The managers tend to live in either the Tower or the Apartments, so they also have a vested interest in keeping the community nice,...
