Admore Hardware & Lock — Local services in New York

I went to this shop to get a copy of my keys made before I left town. There is no signage stating the credit card minimum, though state/city law is $10. Apparently this store adheres to this minimum. Once my keys were complete, the store associate refused to accept my debit card (I believe there is a less of a charge to a business to use this type of card, which is why I did not offer my credit card) and preferred to throw out the new copies rather than accept my money. Since I needed them quickly, I made the trek to get cash and come back. I told the other associate that this was a major inconvenience and legally a sign is required. For example, if I had seen a sign stating the minimum, I would have left to get cash before getting my keys made. More efficient for everyone involved, especially if I hadn't come back for the keys. This associate (an older man wrapped in Yankees paraphernalia) proceeded to speak about me to another customer in Spanish (we had been conversing in English), then reprimanded me for expecting use a card. I explained to him that legally a sign is required and that I wanted to express this to the boss. He states that he is "the boss," which is frankly unbelievable. I know this review will not cause the business owner to put up a sign (though this would take less than five minutes), but I hope that it will dissuade others from patronizing this business. It is not worth the headache or the insult. There are plenty of lovely local hardware stores in the city with friendly and knowledgeable staff. Very regrettably, Admore is not...
