I have been living in Avalon West Chelsea for 6 years now. I have had an amazing experience and Loved and adored all the staff and services until last year when I had my so-not-nice experience with a new concierge. When I saw three of my favorite nice friendly concierges were gone. Two I know for sure got fired by management. I was sad and talked to Sydney about my new horrible experiences in the hope that something would change but as of last night I am completely disappointed in management and that's why I am here to write about my unpleasant and shocking experience here at Avalon since last year.
Last night I asked concierge Andres to give me my package and he refused and said rudely no, get it yourself. I was shocked, although this was the second time I had this experience with him. I told Sydney the first time and nothing has changed; on the opposite Andres has gotten more audacious. He stared into my eyes after I told him: I do not understand, I don't have my phone ( to open the package room) and I need my package. He stared into my eyes with so much audacity, ignored what I said, and he just said have a good day. I said but this is your job, I talked to Sydney about this last time you refused to give me my package and he said yea I know you. This just means that management did nothing about my concern except maybe laughing at my back. I had my own so-not-nice experience with Sydney when I complained about another new inhospitable concierge called Javier for the second time. She called me into her office and told me that I as a resident had no say because I could not fire people. In the end, she told me she would talk to staff if it was needed after I was so clearly upset by the concierge's cold and unfriendly manner. She implied that my opinion does not matter. I felt unheard and insulted after leaving her office. Before that, she mentioned that she had been working with Javier for a long time in another building, they had become good friends and he had been always nice. This shows me that she may mix and confuse her personal relationships with professional relationships. She told me she would get back to me after she talked to Javier about the part she agreed to ( him arguing with me after I asked him why he didn't open the door for me when my hands were full). But she never got back to me. Her attitude in her office was offensive and showed no compassion or respect for me as a resident. Last year in February 2024, I talked to her about packages when the same concierge, named Javier refused to give my packages after he told me what?!!! Instead of "Hi how can I help you?". She told me yes I will talk to all the staff and they should give you your package if you requested like before COVID. It's been a year and this is the 4th time I have had this problem, this time with another concierge called Andres. Again at this point, I have no faith in Sydney.
I had an amazing experience otherwise at Avalon, I want to thank David, Joseph, Pablo, Roberto, Sebastian, Jerald and Kool for their amazing services, and their friendly, kind, and caring behavior and efforts. ❤️Unfortunately, some new hires are not carefully chosen. I hope that management will change to a better, kinder, and more friendly and caring management for residents. A kind of management that values feedback and strives for improvement rather than ignoring and insulting their residents when they have a concern. I don't feel safe anymore in this building. Incompetent management has killed the tender, warm and happy feeling I had about living in this...
Read moreThe community and sales staff is very helpful and flexible. I deal with enough paperwork, so it's very welcome how easy they make it and how accommodating they are. This being the first apartment in my name (previous ones in my fiancé's name), they spent plenty of time making sure I was comfortable with everything and understood all that I needed to. When I knew I had to sign a document but was heavily focused on planning the proposal, Sarah said not to worry about it, we can take care of it when I'm back and even excitedly helped me to make sure I was all set for my big event. Sarah is just amazing to work and interact with.
The concierge staff are all wonderful people who I'd happily grab a drink with. I see William and Darrell daily, and like everyone at the front desk, they are courteous, friendly, and professional, and somehow remember the things going on in my life and check to see things are going well. I don't know how they manage this, with this building being large. They often know if I have a package and will grab it as I walk in even before I check my messages to see if I have one. They're like real world Google Assistants. It blows my mind.
The maintenance staff is prompt and courteous. This building is very well built and relatively new, so I haven't had much interaction with maintenance other than pleasantries in the elevator. The common areas are always clean, except with wet footprints during storms, of course. When there is an issue (the apartment needed paint touch up and the washing machine to be checked), they attend to it the same day. This is almost a mythical standard in New York.
The building is relatively new and of great quality. When I was searching, I saw a few places that had fancy Vegas-style decor and fixtures, but they were for show and it was clear that it wasn't the same quality or craftsmanship as this building. I can't hear any neighbors from inside my apartment. Many of the apartments have great views, and the views never get old.
The community is great. Everyone I have interacted with seems to be intelligent and pleasant. A lot of the community events are in conjunction with Ava, the adjoining apartment building with the same parent company, and they seem to have a great community to interact with as well.
My fiancé, who lives in London, says she terribly misses this building and the people, and that if we stay in NYC in the long term, we could never consider another apartment no matter how big or cheap. Upon me deciding to write this review, she passionately insisted I...
