Barber Shop on 56th — Local services in New York

Booked an appointment online but had to wait 20 min after my appointment time started before they started my shave. They didn’t even know what I had booked, I had to let them know. They don’t seem to keep track of the online booking. Once the shave was done, the barber was expecting a tip, as if I owed it to him especially considering they made me wait 20+ min after my appointment time. At least if you know you can’t keep your appointment time, be humble and not expect a tip, it’s ridiculous how entitled the barber seemed. In addition, I had to either give cash or Venmo/Zelle for the tip, instead of just adding it to the credit card payment amount. The actual shave was ok, he was somewhat in a hurry given he was running behind and I noticed when I checked later that it wasn’t perfect as he missed a couple of spots. Overall not a...

I feel like Google reviews (mine included) are full of people complaining about bad haircuts. I have zero complaints about the Barber Shop on 56th.

I’ve been coming to Joseph for months now and each haircut is better than the one before. The key: he listens. I don’t always know exactly what I want, but I always walk out looking great. I’ve had longer haircuts, down to my most recent fade with a 2/1 on the sides and back and I’ve been happy with each one.

I’ve also been to Mario on a day when I needed a cut but Joseph was unavailable and that haircut was also excellent. At this point, I can’t imagine going...

I stumbled upon this place 4 years ago, and I’m so glad I did. I have been going back ever since. Mario is a fantastic barber. I trust him to take great care of me. He pays attention to every detail. And, he has become a friend, chatting when - we are both energetic - about personal lives and the world around us, or just letting me relax when it has been a tough day or week. Related to the quality of his cut, I even mentioned him in a best man’s speech. The rest of the team is great, too!
