White Olive in Manhattan, NYC is an absolute gem for food lovers! From the moment you step inside this cozy restaurant, you are greeted with warm hospitality and a welcoming atmosphere. The service is truly impeccable, with attentive and friendly staff who are always ready to assist you with any questions or suggestions.
But let's talk about the food! Every dish we tried at White Olive was simply outstanding. The menu features a great selection of Mediterranean-inspired dishes, and each one is executed with precision and care. The flavors are bold and vibrant, yet perfectly balanced.
For starters, we tried the mezze platter which included hummus, hpitti, and tabbouleh, all made fresh in-house. The hummus was incredibly creamy and the hpitti had a smoky flavor that was just perfect.
First, the truffle pasta. This dish is a true standout on the menu. The pasta is cooked to a perfect al dente and coated in a rich, creamy truffle sauce. The truffle flavor is bold but not overpowering, and it pairs perfectly with the pasta. The dish is finished with a sprinkle of grated Parmesan cheese and fresh herbs, which add an extra layer of flavor and texture. If you're a fan of truffle, you simply have to try this pasta dish at White Olive.
Next up, the salmon dish. This dish is a perfect example of the restaurant's focus on fresh ingredients and bold flavors. The salmon itself is cooked to perfection - it's moist, tender, and flaky with a beautiful golden crust on top. It's served on a bed of roasted vegetables, which are cooked to perfection and provide a great contrast in texture to the salmon. The dish is finished with a drizzle of lemon butter sauce, which adds a bright and tangy flavor that complements the richness of the salmon. This dish is a great option for seafood lovers, and it's a must-try when dining at White Olive.
The dessert menu is also not to be missed. We indulged in the baklava which was sweet, nutty, and flaky, and a perfect end to our meal.
White Olive is a must-visit restaurant for foodies in Manhattan. The exceptional service combined with the mouthwatering dishes make for an unforgettable dining experience. I can't wait to go back and try more...
Read moreThis was possibly the worst dining experience in NYC. I was excited to try it out as it had good reviews but my dinner was far from memorable. I usually don’t write reviews however this experience was so disappointing especially because how expensive everything on the menu was. For an appetizer we ordered the mussels which were sent back due to a fishy taste. We also ordered a shrimp appetizer that was $28 that tasted like 4 frozen shrimp were placed in a random red sauce. I had to ask for bread multiple times. When it came out it was stale and not edible. At this point I should have just left. We also had ordered a salad with blue cheese. I had asked the waiter if he could leave the blue cheese on the side. When it arrived it was incorporated into the salad. My salmon was also sent back as it had no taste to it whatsoever. My partner who ordered the filet at $60 had asked for it rare and was sent to him well done. I had asked for salt and when I put it on, uncooked rice fell onto my food. When I informed another staff member she told me that was impossible and that it was just salt. After I showed her what was coming out she apologized but yet never brought me a new salt shaker. I don’t mind paying these prices if food is good. But I have an issue when I’m paying all this money and I could have had a better meal at a diner. The manager was very apologetic and offered a complimentary glass of wine and admitted that this was an off night and that he was receiving multiple complaints from other diners. After all was said and done I was stuck with a bill of $150 (this was after the dishes that were sent back were comped) and ate absolutely nothing. They also overcharged us for 2 coffees when one was ordered. The service was also slow and had to ask for things multiple times. Our table had no napkins and after asking for them over 4 times I just got up and picked them up at the service station placed next to my table. Thank goodness for the $1.50 slice of pizza a few...
Read moreWould give a 0/5; can’t trust w/ credit card. (& suggest checking yelp reviews for other ppl’s experience w/ food bc these google reviewers were a personal let down)
Why I went: trusted the positive reviews & went for baby lamb chops and octopus. Down to spend for good food
First red flag: menu is not updated online--diff items on menu in person, diff prices & no lunch menu (server said it's been like this for 3 months, maybe it's about time they make that update)
Experience: They edited my tip--read further to situation--shady staff is never worth ambient interior, convenient location, & typical overpriced mediocre food. Genuinely would never suggest to a friend.
-Situation: seems like an isolated experience but main issue is getting overcharged: End of meal, server spilled food all over clothes--as in plate fell onto lap, hit floor & splattered to the table behind me & all over the floor--didn't offer anything to clean up clothes until asked for; expectations for urgency or decency just didn't match, responsive with communication, but no apology until asked for check. No biggy, maybe server's having an off day.
**2. Based on personal judgement, tipped ~13% as deduction to dry cleaning fee (which wasn't offered but again, will adjust to manage my own expectations). The main issue: OVERCHARGED on credit card. Meaning, staff rewrote tip to 23%. Be mad, but to scam is something else. My tip coming here: check your statement b/c personally find it worth to have trust issues w/ their staff. I took the itemized receipt & not the damn customer copy of receipt they put under the merchant copy. Def learned from my mistake.
Takeaway: just eat somewhere else--wish I...
