Read moreMy gf’s & i planned a holiday day seeing MJ(fabulous!) & 6:30 dinner at il Tunillo 56th. We arrived at 6:10 and was told “afew min”. For this reason we didn’t order a drink at the bar as we expected to be seated shortly which seemed to annoy the bartender. Not Seated until 6:32, what followed is completely unacceptable. As soon as we sat down, we literally could not finish a thought w/o being interrupted. After we were told the specials I requested a menu. I was sarcastically told “oh you want to get more confused now?” -at the time I thought it a joke but realize now he didn’t want us to waste time looking at a menu(?). My gf also requested a cocktail menu hoping for some specialty ideas however there is none. Bread plates, drink glasses etc were being taken away before we finished, we were asked our orders and for drink refills repeatedly, all within 20 min! In an attempt to be left alone for more than 3 min at a time we ordered an appetizer so we could peruse and discuss the menu. It seems the waiter didn’t like that so he “told on us”. The manager/owner promptly came over to say he would need our table for another party so if we waited to order Main meals he would move us to another table after our appetizer. What?? It was 7:10 at this point of our 6:30 res! He then incredulously said “you are just a party of 3”(implying our chk wasn’t worth it). I am a native NYer who spends money and this doesn’t fly, AT ALL! Why did you sit us at this table? What is wrong with these people? Hearing our incredulous responses to his rude and unprofessional statements he later came over to express how he didn’t want us to feel rushed but, but, but…(in unison we said “but we are being rushed!”). Then dessert came. We ordered cappuccino, coffee, crème brûlée and raspberries with zabaglione. A cup of raspberries came with a side of whipped cream, NOT zabaglione. We were charged $29 for a cup of raspberries with something we didn’t order. Also, at the time the desserts were deposited on the table, so was the check. Maybe the 4th spoonful into my crème brûlée he attempted to pick the check back up as if completed… while we were still eating our dessert! It was seriously unbelievable. I would say that our $350 bill w/o tip was not enough for them so they make pricing up as they go along. There is, conveniently, no dessert menu with pricing after all. And lucky for us (read sarcasm) we were not moved, because a different table of six didn’t show up. Lucky us! In summary. Although the food was quite good, due to the attitudes of both staff and owner, the misleading menu and odd pricing, i will not be recommending this restaurant to ANYONE. There are Just too many fabulous places in NY to...
Read moreWe usually go to Il tinello every time we’re in NYC, which is like 5-6 times a year for the last couple years . This last time I called made a reservation for 7:30. We arrived promptly at the restaurant and there were alot of people at the entrance and bar area, so we waited our turn to be attended to. We told the hostess / coat checker we had a 7:30 reservation. She checked for our name and then came back and informed us that they are a bit backed up and it will be a short wait. She took my jacket and then asked if she “can offer us a drink while we wait” I asked what they had to offer , she said red wine or a cocktail , they have a full open bar that they can make whatever we like. I asked for a side car and my husband asked for sparkling water . I got my drink that tasted really terrible so I just held on to it . We waited about half and hour before we got the table . We sat and got the usual bread and other things that are normally given . We weren’t offered the wine list or asked if we wanted anything else to drink. We ordered our meals about half hour after . My husband ordered risotto with mushrooms and scallops, he also asked for some fresh tomatoes on the side, which is what he orders almost every time we go there and I ordered branzino that was on the specials menu. I asked what it came with the waiter said mashed potatoes and mixed veggies. I asked to switched out the potatoes for Something else. He said he can only add more veggies because it wasn’t a lot of potatoes. I said fine , Let’s just add a little more vegetable. The food finally came and the risotto was plain and tasteless and one of the scallops was tasting spoilt. We didn’t complain, My branzino came out with 4 Pieces of roasted potatoes and green beans. Still we didn’t complain…. We had dessert and we were offered a digestif. I took a port. When the bill came I thought it was unusually high. We didn’t have wine or any thing…. (Mind you , we hardly scrutinize the bill) Upon checking the bill I saw we were charged $24 for a sarza and $18 for ensalad. When we asked , we we told that the sarza was the drink I ordered and the ensalad the tomatoes that they chopped for us .🤯🤯☹️☹️ When we queried the bill the junior server said he didn’t know , so he went to find out . The head waiter came and rudely told us that it’s Only the port Was complimentary that we ordered the drink from the bar but he took it off. We still paid $18.00 for a “salad “ though. Something we usually pay $6-8 for previously. Too many other places with better food…. Not...
