It's been a month since we had our corporate event at the casino and people are still coming up to me with big smiles wanting to talk about it. Let me try to paint a nice picture from start to finish. First, I did a google search for "fun things to do in NYC". Big Deal Casino was on the list. Having done "casino nights" at various hotel venues before for work, this place instantly drew me to it especially since the pictures on their website really did look like a speakeasy from the 1920's. I wanted to know more so I called them, left a message, and Wendy instantly got back to me same day. We had a great conversation and Wendy took me through the process explaining how everything works. Wendy was very professional and was able to give me a good range of pricing based on what I was looking for. It didn't take long for her to get back to me (think it was next day) and the contracting process was one of the easiest negotiations I've had at work. After we got the contract out of the way, I spoke with Rebecca who took me through some more details particularly what casino games we like to play, what kind of prizes will we give out since it's important to point out that this IS NOT a real gambling casino. This is strictly for fun events where you provide the winnings if you want to have your group win something after playing poker, roulette, black jack, etc. Othewise, you are just playing for the fun of it, but recommend bringing prizes for your group to win as an incentive. Fast forward to the day of the event, I got there about a half hour early just so that no one from my work would see the prizes. I also helped Wendy greet people as they came in which was really fun. I'm not going to give it away, but I like the build up that happens before you even get into the casino. And it was true, once you're in the casino, you feel like you were transported to a real speakeasy from the 1920's. The staff are all dressed up and interacting with my co-workers making them feel comfortable, teaching them how to play, and just laughing having a fun time with them. Also, the bartender was great, made some really good mixed drinks including my old fashioned. You and your group don't have to dress up. We all went there straight from work. This was one of the best corporate events I've ever had and others agreed. The atmosphere was fun and lively. Both Wendy and Rebecca really know how to through an awesome party and am looking forward to the invite when they eventually expand their casino. Book your next event as soon as possible as you will...
Read moreAfter almost a year late writing this review, I'm finally coming around to it because, well, this place is pretty unforgettable. I'm serious. I went with Big Deal for a corporate team building activity 10 months ago, and every few months, when a team member mentions how fantastic this experience was, I am reminded that I am a review procrastinator.
From an event planning perspective, this is a bet you'll want to take. Wendy has this process down to a science, leaving only the fun parts of planning to you. Food: there are several food vendors and food options you can go with including sushi and a fresh crepe station. I went with their primary catering partner for passed apps and was given a list ranging from small bites to more hearty/filling appetizers. You could also add on additional items like cheeseboards (we ordered 2 and they came beautifully arranged). I was pleasantly surprised with how tasty everything was. My team also thought it was a hit.
The best part about Big Deal is how INCREDIBLE their team is. You could tell how much they enjoyed their job because of how vibrant and energetic they were. Everybody- from the dealers to food runners to person working coat check- went in overdrive with how well they cared for my team. The food runners were extra attentive and made a concerted effort to ensure people who had dietary restrictions were well fed. The dealers were charismatic, sociable, and excellent teachers. They went above and beyond to ensure my team had fun, regardless if they knew how to play.
Overall, can't recommend Big Deal enough. If you can only choose one event for the year, make...
Read moreTHE BEST HOLIDAY PARTY THIS COMPANY EVER HAD, not my words, but what I heard over and over again after our Holiday party this year at Big Deal Casino. Where do I begin? I was looking for a fun idea for a holiday party instead of our usual nice sit down dinner (which can be dull and sometimes even awkward).
After a long search I found Big Deal Casino. Wendy and Indira were super helpful and really took care of EVERYTHING. The food was great and as requested was circulated all night. There were two bartenders (we had 60 guests) which was perfect especially since I requested to have some wine glasses and some Manhattans ready to go as people started arriving.
The music, atmosphere, food and drinks were all great, but what really made our event shine is the amazing team they have. The dealers were patient with those who did not know how to play, handed out “cheat sheets”, and allowed everyone to be a winner.
Wendy was present through the whole event and even took photos that she happily shared with me.
Only one major problem with the event, I booked three hours, I should have...
