I got to visit this place for an event, and it was amazing! I love the decor, the cherry blossom with lights were really pretty, without it being too much of fluff. The furniture was simple and elegant, and the red brick wall brought out comfort and cozy atmosphere. They really pay attention to the beautiful interior, without making it too loud, but just the right amount of color, texture, and ornaments. There were not much artwork on the walls, but rustic wooden framed mirrors on the brick wall. I really liked the way it looked!
They had such great selection of drinks to choose from, and everything we ordered, all high quality and tasty! And their food? Well, they certainly have brought more than enough food for us to taste them. It was really great to taste so many different dishes that they offer, it was all around yummy goodness.
The service here was great, server, Julie was a delight, she was friendly, and super kind! I had a little trouble getting to the food in this crowded event. Julie saw me (with my super sad face), and she told me that she will come right back with more food. Then, she came straight to where I was sitting with a tray of food! From them she came over each time when new food was brought out to made sure we got all the food offerings. How sweet is she??? Seriously, she was an angel!!! Then, their manager, Donna, was another wonderful, warm, sweet person here. Even thought they were the only two people we encounter this evening, but what are the odds that both of them to be such wonderful people? I wouldn't be surprised if everyone who works here are really nice people. I would definitely go back for their amazing, high quality drinks, comfort food or maybe try $1 oysters, and for the great service with warm smile!    Read moreI love this place. I've been coming here for years and never had an issue. Great food, staff, environment, etc. However I was very disappointed in the drag queen they hired yesterday on June 1st to kick off pride month. The owners of the bar need to sit this person down and have an adult conversation about how the "platform" she was given to entertain us is not to be used to express their personal anger, beliefs, and unfortunate situations in life. I am gay, very proud, and excited to celebrate, however this drag performer was offensive and showed undertones of anger while screaming "When I say free, you say Palestine!" "When I say black lives, you say mater!" "When I say black trans lives, you say matter!" It was utterly ridiculous. She literally said "Ive recently had a bad couple of weeks in my life" before going on a 10 minute awkward monologue about how she's trans and had a hard life. You're wearing a thong! This is not the place for your sad life story! I am trying to eat my dinner and catch a buzz and this person is unloading their personal beliefs and grievances on me - I felt very uncomfortable. I'm not sure she has the maturity or is in the right mental state to hold a microphone in front of guests. Thanks for your time, and I hope this helps. I'll be back soon...
Read moreI've been to John Doe before and had a great experience but unfortunately it did not happen this time. My friend and I were eager to get there after work last Friday to get our weekend started. When we arrived there was no one standing where we go to be seated so we walked towards the bar. Many happy hours in midtown only let you sit at the bar for happy hour so we started to do that. We didn't want to assume so we walked back the front to wait on someone to sit us.
Finally, a waitress, short Spanish woman with glasses asked us where we want to sit. We simply asked if HH is only being honored at the bar. She rudely replied in a snappy voice and stance, it doesn't matter where you sit, inside or outside it doesn't matter". Here's the thing, it wasn't what she said, It was how she said it. Thankfully my parents raised me right and I didn't immediately respond with her energy because if I did, It would not have been pretty. My friend and I looked at each other and decided to leave before it escalated.
You do not talk to people who want to patronize your establishment that way. At this big age you should know how to talk to people, especially the same people you want a tip from. John Doe will never...
