I've never left a negative review for a business before because Iāve fortunately never experienced what I did today. I didnāt want to leave a review but I feel obligated to help others from being mislead about the capabilities of the stylists that work here.
I found out about this salon online as it was listed as one of the āThe 9 Best Curly Hair Salons in NYC.ā Having natural type 3C-4A hair, I attempted to do all necessary research into the salon and first called to ensure stylists could work with my hair type. I was reassured on the phone that the stylists were not only experienced but comfortable working with curly hair, but this was revealed to be a clear lie.
When I arrived at the salon today my stylist, who apprehensively looked at my natural hair, proceeded to ask what styling tools past stylists have used on me. Although it wasnāt yet, it became abundantly clear the stylists that worked on my hair have never touched natural 3C hair before and made, what were to me, obvious error after error when attempting to style my hair.
As my hair was being rinsed, one stylist began raking through my hair (from the roots to the ends), with a paddle brush, causing my hair to loose all curl pattern and become extremely poofy. After noticing what was happening I had to interrupt her and tell her that you canāt detangle natural hair with paddle brushes. It was at this moment that I should have left, but I believed the stylist that was going to heat style my hair would do a better jobā¦
My main stylist first attempted to blow dry my hair with a thin-bristled wire brush meant for fine hair. I had to correct her and explain that a wide-bristled brush would work better. I found myself continually correcting the stylist throughout my time in the chair. āIf you detangle my hair with a wide tooth comb instead of a paddle brush my hair wouldnāt knot and would be a lot easier to work with,ā I had to tell her. āCould you detangle from the bottom-up,ā I had to ask. These were clearly amateurish mistakes being made by the stylist, making my sense of unease continue to increase throughout this point. Finally, the stylist continued to use the blow-dryer and flat iron repeatedly and slowly over the same sections, clearly confused as to why my hair was not straight enough.
I completely understand that stylists have limitations, that beauty school more often neglects to teach hair stylists how to care for natural hair, and that styling curly hair can be extremely laborious. However, if a stylist at any point had just informed me that they were not familiar with styling natural hair, I would have understood and promptly left.
I was charged $209 for what was an extremely stressful experience, and poofy, heat-damaged hair. The cherry on top was not being informed that a trim/cut would be an extra charge of $80+.
My hair is the worst itās ever looked after leaving the salon and I've never spent anywhere near $200. At this salon I was made to feel at fault for daring to have natural curly hair and for giving the inexperienced stylists a hard time. The last thing my stylist told me was to 'book a double-appointment' because my hair took her too long to do. Iām extremely disappointed and mad at myself for not having the courage to leave out of fear of making my stylist feel bad and for causing a scene, however, I am well aware that this is the clear action I should have taken.
Iād really like my money back for being misinformed and hurt by this salon, however, Iām doubtful that Iāll receive it. Instead, Iāll warn other naturals about making the mistake I did.
Please, do not come to this salon!

Ā Ā Ā Read moreI donāt write reviews but this was a pretty bad experience here, not only does my hair look virtually the same as before I got it done for $300 plus tip, (the tone or color seems to have washed out after the first shower) but my overall experience was bad. The salon was extremely loud and not at all a pleasant or relaxing environment (I understand that it is a large salon) but other stylists were practically yelling/being so loud the entire time I was there. I made my appointment with ample notice and during my visit the colorist kept leaving to do other clients hair (never had that happen at any salon iāve ever been to.) They were extremely rough with my hair, literally pulling it SO hard with a brush (after teasing it and making it that way) iāve never had a colorist or assistant yank my hair so many times, so hard. While I was having my hair washed the woman was pulling it with the brush so much, it was extremely painful. Same with the coloristāneither apologized or tried to put product in to help detangle it. After leaving my appointment I immediately realized that I left my coat in the downstairs coat check, I called them a few times with no answer, I then called early the next morning and spoke to someone who confirmed it was still there (I told her I worked that whole day and asked when the latest I could get it was) and she said that I could go anytime to get it. I called them multiple times that day to confirm that I would be able to get it that evening and despite me calling before 6PM, I repeatedly (!!) just got their voicemail that said they stop answering the phones at 6PM (again I called well before that time) Despite being unable to reach anyone I went straight to get my coat and when I arrived it was not in the coat check despite me calling and telling them that I would be coming to get it, the nice security guard tried to help me look for it but was unable. I had to leave because it was not anywhere he lookedāa while later I got a call from him that he found it so then I had to go all the way back despite it being cold out, to get it. He was very nice but the entire situation was unpleasant and iāve never experienced anything like it in my many years of going to extremely upscale and professional salons both in Beverly Hills and Manhattan. Ā Ā Ā Read moreHad a terrible experience here last week. I was booked in for a cut and color and they did my color and then sent me downstairs to have my haircut. I was sitting with soaking wet hair for almost and hour and asked them how long it would be because I had to go to work. They said I had been mis-booked and that it would be roughly 15 minutes. After about half an hour I explained that I only had time to have my hair dried because I cant be late for work ( I am a doctor working emergency.) They were not apologetic and seemed to just want to chat and socialise. Finally they got to at least drying my hair and I realised that my hair was much darker than I had asked for, I had requested a medium chestnut and showed a pictures and it was almost black. I explained that the woman upstair had barely checked my color and did not seem engaged at all. They blow dried my hair and said that I could have it fixed in 2 weeks, which is a long time to have hair you hate. In addition to this, the blow out was worse than I would have done at home.
They booked me in for an appointment 2 weeks later to fix my hair and then charged me for a blow out that I would not have needed to pay for if they had of been more organised to made time to have my hair cut.
They then called me a few days later cancelling the re-color and cut with not apology..
