Altogether, it was a terrible ordeal. I bought a sofa (Emerson sofa, quick ship). The sofa that was delivered to me, was very uncomfortable because the cushions were way too stiff, making the seating area narrow and almost unusable. I went back to the store (1010 3rd Ave, New York) the next day but received a very strange advice - to use it, to jump on it for a week, or two weeks, or a month. I came back after a week and said that I want to return this sofa (I had 10 days from the delivery day, so a month-long jumping was not really an option). This time the manager told me that she is very sorry and suggested to chose another sofa from EA. I spent several hours at the store with a sales representative and finally made my choice, but when the next day I was in the store ( for the third time) ready to make an exchange, the same manager told me that they can’t approve the exchange because in my contract they found a line saying that the sofa I bought was listed as an EA custom product. I had to say that she examined the contract carefully two times before and didn’t say a word about a “custom product”. The quick ship products are not custom made, you have no choice but only can buy the product in a combination that EA suggests, and they are two times cheaper than custom made products. So, what they did is obvious manipulating if not intentional cheating. I filed a complaint to the BBB and hope to return my money, but my advice - STAY AWAY from Ethan Allen, to avoid cheating and...
Read more. We purchased a lot of stuff from there . Spent thousands of dollars . The sales person was sick . She took care of our first order and another person helped us took over and continue the other order we purchased after that . Myhusband just got too attached to ethan allen product. We purchased since 20 years ago when we bought our apartment and we purchase a new house just last year. I have few order number because we purchased a lot of stuff from manhattan . One of the chair is ok it needed some touch up and they sent someone to touch it up, but the night table we purchased got different color of pumice . It is dark not light color like the other pumice color we have on our chairs , ottoman and the desks. If we knew it would be like that we would choose a black color instead of pumice . And for this issue the salesperson and the customer services just wanted us to accept that without any solution . When we called to order the night table we told her we wanted the same exactly pumice color as our chairs, ottoman and desk but she did not explain that there is a different finishes with the night table and we asked the guy who came for touch up he knew that it is not the same and it is completely different look because it looked much darker and dirty , not smooth . If we want to have the black color to change it we need to pay . Actually it supposed to be ethan allen responsibilty for not explaining...
Read moreIn response to EA's response: No, I worked with an EA designer, not an affiliate. And I do not want to provide additional information because, quite frankly, the designer I worked with is quite intense.
Review: Be careful. We recently worked with a private designer referred by someone we know. We did not seek out services from Ethan Allen. The designer came to our home for a meeting/consultation and she charged us for the hour, which we paid. As she was leaving and we were discussing meeting again she mentioned she also works at Ethan Allen. She suggested we visit her there as everything is in one place and it would be easier to see what we like. We did end up working with her at EA and eventually realized Ethan Allen's design services are supposed to be complimentary. She portrayed herself as a private designer, charged us for the initial meeting and then immediately funneled us through Ethan Allen collecting more money from commissions. Moral of the story: when you meet a "private designer" ask if they are affiliated with any company with a complimentary design service. If they say yes tell them you prefer to work with them in store, otherwise you'll end up paying for that free design service and their pocket will be a little bit...
