I made an appointment and was seated when I came inside. The vibe was off when I sat down and I’m not sure why. I felt like I was guilty or something I didn’t do or I missed something. I decided to shake it off.
The woman, Amy, who did my nails had a hard time properly and quickly getting off my gel. She shaved off too much of my natural nails and now they are super thin and sore. I had to keep reminding her that she didn’t need to keep filing which she would have known how she truly been skilled. She wasted a lot of time doing unnecessary buffering, and filing that wasn’t required in order to do my nails and that led to me being their way longer than I was supposed to. She was a bit aggressive with my nails and cuticles. Something you’re not supposed to be doing when dealing with people skin that could potentially get punctured and lead to infection.
She didn’t seem that skilled, even though she may have had a lot of experience doing nails. I’ve done my nails for years with no training and I even know what to do.
My nails ended up being subpar and regular. Nothing special. A couple of cuts and pain from how she did everything very tacky and had to fix it, which caused more problems.
She also doesn’t know how to do eyebrows properly. I’ve been getting my eyebrows done for 20 years and never had to give anyone instructions, let alone still be unsatisfied after giving said instructions and having my eyebrows still look like they did when I came in. I also have burn marks right under my eye eyebrows from the super hot wax. Sit was stinging and burning for 48 hours until the dark scabs came which I’ve had to cover with makeup but the scabs are thick so you can still see it surfaced on above my eyelids. Once again, never happened to me before until I came here.
Pedicure was super rushed and wasn’t relaxing at all. Felt more like I was a burden than a customer. Nothing special about it.
Many of their tools don’t seem sanitized, although the salon overall “looked” clean.
I spent over $180 and they were shocked that I gave a small tip. They were visibly and verbally were offended. Quite the audacity, especially with the subpar service, burning me and doing nothing special. Tipping culture is becoming a ridiculous. It is NOT a requirement, so stop acting like we are entitled to tip you for service we already pay for via your prices. So cut it out. And they like to try to guilt trip you or manipulate you into paying more. I don’t fall for that mess as I’m in the service industry and well aware of their nail salon style of hustling.
It was my first time coming and will be the last.
I’m used to going to luxury nail salons where the service is wonderful in Los Angeles. I was looking for a new nail place in Manhattan and I guess this won’t be it. No thanks. The skin below my eyebrows is still sore with dark scabbing burn marks, and my nails look like they need to be redone already and look tacky from the...
Read moreThis was my first time here and I'm disappointed. I walked in and was greeted nicely, I too greeted them nicely with a smile. I asked if there is availability for the manicure and pedicure special. The woman said yes and asked for me to sit down as she was with someone. In the meantime after some time another technician named Jenny came to me. No hi, no hello, much different than the first technician. She tried to sell me the spa pedicure which I didn't want. She then said there will be no callus removal. I said I'm fine with a regular pedicure to which it seemed like she was annoyed by. My pedicure started at 1:22 and ended by 1:30. I've had many regular pedicures but this was extremely rushed, she kept yanking my feet, and I barely had my feet soaked. The exfoliation and lotion massage was a joke, not even 30 seconds. My feet was barely scrubbed for maybe 15 seconds tops. The parafin on the heels didn't even dry and she removed it. She was very cold in her approach. My manicure too was extremely rushed. And she was hurting me at how fast she filed my nails, again nails barely soaked. I didn't put any polish but this was extremely rushed. I was done both by 1:40. I didn't want to tip her at all, but I couldn't do that. She asked how much tip I said 5 dollars to which replied they gave a policy that it's 15% tips. Since when is tips mandatory?! I didn't have energy to argue so I paid and left. Not relaxing. Waste of time. Honestly this is a service and I was paying for the service. Please Jenny be more gentler to the clients. And if we are unhappy with a service, we...
Read moreThe nail techs here are so sweet and do a really good job, and I am a professional nail tech myself, so I can be a tough critic! They have really nice massage chairs and tons of colors to choose from. The salon feels clean, and their practice is safe and sterile. They play calm music and somehow maintain a relaxing environment in noisy midtown. Before 55 street opened, I got a pedicure at a fancy spa on the same block, and the woman cut so deeply into the corner of my big toenail, I was actually impressed when she pulled out the huge piece and showed it to me LOL… but the agonizing pain started about a week after as it began to grow back in. I was unable to wear closed toed shoes from April 2023 until the middle of the summer. I had never experienced anything like that before. After months of suffering, it left me traumatized and paranoid to get another pedicure. I took a chance here and tried it out when they first opened in the fall and I had no issues whatsoever, all around outstanding experience. They restored my faith. You can get the $60 pedicure option if you want to keep it quick and simple, but I go for the $110 top tier service with callus removal, extra massage, and gel polish upgrade. It’s worth every penny, they do a really good spa level service, with long lasting gel paint job. These ladies clearly care...
