Crunch is currently celebrating 25 years of taking money from clients and failing to provide services for them, especially their women members.
When there are 5 women in the entire gym and one of them is working, why are 41 of the lockers in the women’s locker room locked? Another 20 lockers have busted locks or the lock is thrown while the locker is open making it impossible to use. The gym does not provide locker rentals. They also do not adhere to a policy of removing items when people abuse the privilege of using lockers for days on end in perpetuity.
Of course, this includes their female trainers who store their stuff In 1 or more large upper tier lockers on a permanent basis. Gym policy should be that they each get one small locker for their supplies and can use a large lower tier locker while they are working.
Of course it’s no surprise that reasonable policies are neither the norm nor even considered as the management here is abysmal! I think they’ve had more than 5 managers in the last couple years. And the current one is useless. For example, when the air con broke and temps on the gym floor exceeded 80 degrees this week, no one sent an email to members, including single site members, to offer them a workout at another location. When the water goes down (which happens often), there is never any advance notice beyond a small flyer hung on the wall. Where is the email notification. Not everyone uses the gym every day.
It takes over a week to get a drain in the showers cleared. (Walk across the street to Walgreen’s and get a bottle of Drano) Ladies, if you like showering in ankle deep waste water, this is the club for you!! Took over 3 weeks to replace a light bulb over the mirror in the ladies locker room. If you like doing your hair and makeup in the dark, this is the club for you!! If you think 30 women sharing 1 blow dryer for weeks is fun, come to Crunch 66th St. And the reason I say they don’t like women … while there was 1 working blow dryer in the women’s locker room for more than a week, there were 2 in the men’s.
UPDATE: 1 week later. There are 2 women in the gym and 42 lockers in the women’s locker room are locked. Thought there was progress on Monday when all the lockers were opened. Apparently, one grand gesture hasn’t been followed up with actual change. By the way, did you give bonuses to the staff/employees who gave you...
Read moreAnd here we are, just a few days... Once again I experienced a COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE issue today that absolutely needs to be addressed. The gym opened a shocking 10 minutes late. Let me be clear: 10 minutes might not sound like much, but for those of us who schedule our workouts with precision – especially when we only have a mere 30-minute window – it's an ENORMOUS, IRRECOVERABLE CHUNK of our precious time. This isn't an isolated incident; the gym was also opened late just a few days ago, leaving many frustrated people waiting.
This repeated delay felt like a blatant theft of opportunity to get a full, proper workout in. When you're desperately trying to fit exercise into an already packed schedule, every single second is critical. I understand that new operations might have "teething problems," but consistent and punctual opening times are not just fundamental; they are ABSOLUTELY ESSENTIAL to a gym's service, particularly right after opening when members are trying to establish their routines and trust in your operation.
I sincerely hope this utter lack of punctuality is rectified immediately. A reliable schedule is not a luxury; it's a NECESSITY for members who are committed to making the most of their limited time. I'm looking for significant and immediate improvements in this area, as the gym otherwise has great potential that is currently being undermined by this...
Read moreI am sure the gym is beautiful. It is in a fantastic location. I should know since I walked from 116th in Harlem , through Central Park, to get there. I arrived at 10:30 having no idea I was on a serious time “crunch”. 120 min starting at 10am, for open gym. Customer service was impeccable- it was the most polite, we do not give AF you could ever ask for. I was 15 min late to a 120 min self directed workout to do squats and lunges and hopefully use the facilities before I walked the hour back to Harlem. The front desk response was “sorry your late… that’s policy…and we already charged you for not being here”, … 15 min was quick to report me, so that’s good for them! … the response was “but you can purchase a day pass, since we already reported you to Class Pass”. Me- standing in awe because it was so professionally orchestrated without empathy or care- but professionally the best corporate fck off I’ve seen to date. I’ve been treated worse- but this is not the crunch or the cool New York vibe I know and remember from when I was an original member 20 plus years ago. You should have given me a little grace- let me use the remaining gym time, or at least wipe the sweat off my brow from walking…- but instead of giving any grace- a soft one fingered bird and a smile of code book superiority. That’s silly and not the cool factor crunch was...
