I so enjoyed attending Daniel Roy’s Parlour of Deceptions. It’s an astounding performance by a gifted magician and entertainer in a lovely setting. Before the performance begins, you get to wander through the Salmagundi Club’s art collection while an excellent pianist plays. The historic venue and the fact that people dress nicely to attend the show create a sophisticated atmosphere. Daniel’s show incorporates a wide range of illusions— card tricks, mind reading, tricks with props, and a dangerous stunt to name a few— and includes a great deal of audience participation. I think everyone was a part of at least one trick. The tricks themselves seemed impossible, and my friend and I spent a lot of time after the show absolutely stumped trying to understand how he pulled them off! While performing these tricks, Daniel engages with the audience through charisma and humor. He is a natural entertainer whose set included sharp pre-written witticisms and improvisation based on audience interaction. We spent the performance alternating between laughing uncontrollably and gasping in awe. Daniel also shares snippets of cognitive science, psychology, and magic history throughout the show. With a degree in neurobiology from the University of Pennsylvania and a fascination with magic from the age of 10, he certainly has a lot to share on all of the aforementioned subjects. So in short, if you’re looking for a memorable date, activity with friends, experience for visitors, or outing with your family, Daniel’s show is the perfect option and...
Read moreDaniel's magic show was by far one of the coolest activities I've done in New York City. My friend and I went on a Saturday night and upon arrival, Daniel was standing with all of his fans at the entrance personally greeting each and every one of us, getting to know us and engaging in conversations with the crowd on an intimate level, which already illustrated how much he cared about his audience. This is definitely not something I've gotten to experience when the star of a show hangs out and gets to know the audience before and after the show. We all really loved this part of the evening! As far as the magic goes, I left the show completely blown away. I'm fairly well-versed in magic tricks, as I grew up around magic and all I have to say is after every single one of Daniel's tricks, my jaw completely dropped. Daniel does a fantastic job of keeping the audience involved and the show was very interactive with a new volunteer helping him out in every trick! I think my favorite part of the show was when he simply read my mind. That's right. Read my mind and said it out loud to the entire audience. Don't understand how that was possible but I am still thinking about it. Overall, this was such an awesome Saturday night experience and I would go again in a heartbeat. Perfect for a friends night, date night or even a corporate outing! I highly recommend seeing one of Daniel's shows - truly an unforgettable, authentic, must-do NYC...
Read moreWe got to the show before the doors even opened and were greeted kindly and personably by Isabel and Daniel. William came to the bar 10 minutes early and served us our drinks, graciously accommodating us eager early birds. The show is an absolute must see. I am a long time fan of magic and have spent the past 2-3 years learning magic and I can say Daniel had my attention the whole time. The pace of the show is as perfect as the show is intimate and personable. Even if you see a slight or know a slight or think you know a slight, Daniel’s ability to play the crowd and keep the show moving forward is top notch. Daniel’s style and story telling takes you down a path of wonder where you’re not sure what’s going to happen until the exact moment he wants you to know. It was a beautiful show and I’m glad to have been a part...
