I have had the opportunity to train in Singapore and some other parts of Asia over the years, and the increasing focus on competition BJJ is slowly taking away the self-defence element of the martial art. Chris does well (and is supremely patient) to bring this balance back by focusing on takedowns & connecting them to submissions while also sprinkling the lessons with guard escapes, for example.
