My experience with Fit Club has been nothing short of amazing!
Fit Club was first recommended to me by a friend two years ago when I sustained an ankle injury. Since it was out of network for me, I decided not to take the recommendation and found another physical therapist that was covered by my insurance. Unfortunately, the other practice and therapist I found made me skeptical of PT services as a whole.
Now fast forward to earlier this year, I've been experiencing intense pain in my back and neck due to several herniated discs. I would wake up in the middle of the night from severe pain and was unable to engage in any physical exercise. (I had to stop running, hiking and taking workout classes!) Even every day activities like sitting, standing and walking caused a lot of pain and as a result I became very weak. After having worked with a chiropractor for over a year, I went to a spine specialist who recommended that I give physical therapy a try before trying an epidural steroid injection. I remembered Fit Club in the midst of all of this and decided to give it a chance despite the fact that it was still out of network for me. I've had the pleasure of being treated by Kellen for the past seven weeks and it's really changed my life. My pain has decreased by at least 70% and I've been slowly building my strength. Here are a few of the many reasons why I'd recommend Fit Club: While I've only had the opportunity to work with Kellen, all the therapists there are warm and personable whether or not you're their patient. The therapist works with you for the full hour. Unlike most PT practices I've come across in the city, they only book one patient at a time for the full hour! They care about your whole body and take into consideration all your goals and needs. The fee can seem overwhelming at first compared to in network therapists but you're paying for quality and it's totally worth it. The receptionist, Hosanna, is very informative and helpful throughout your treatment. Plus, she's really sweet and easy to work with when scheduling...

I was diagnosed with plantar fasciitis in November 2016. I tried steroid injections. The series of three injections would work for a little while following the injection, but later the pain would return. I began physical therapy in February 2017. After about 5 weeks of therapy, going twice a week and repeating the exercises at home, I continued to experience pain. I repeatedly told the therapist that I wasn't pleased with my progress. I shared with him my speculation that my plantar fasciitis may have been caused by tightness in other muscles that were distorting my gait. I even asked that he apply more pressure to my achilles tendon as he was massaging it. He kept saying we were "working towards that." By May I had enough and informed my podiatrist that I would not be returning to that practice. That's when she informed me that she had the name of another physical therapist: Dr. Kellen Scantlebury. I was the first patient she was referring to him.
I was very skeptical about returning to therapy. I was even more skeptical when I met Dr. Kellen and he appeared young enough to be my son. But I gave him a chance. I am so glad I did! During my first evaluation appointment, Dr. Kellen informed me that he was going to be examining more than just my foot. He wanted to examine from my foot and upward. Before I could tell him about speculations and my failed rehabilitation, he began explaining why he was examining my balance, my gait, my calf and hip muscles, etc. After only TWO very involved appointments, I could see a dramatic improvement! My muscles are way more flexible. The pain in my heal, arch and ankle have diminished significantly. The occasional pain in my knee is gone. And for the first time since the diagnosis, I feel like I am making progress towards jogging again!
Once we resolve this issue, I look forward to working with the team in my quest becoming physically fit. I have a long way to go, but I am confident they will be able to get me there.
A word to the wise: give Fit Club a try. You can...
Read moreI really enjoyed my experience with Fit Club. I started biweekly remote personal training / physical therapy sessions with John Ly at the start of the pandemic. In addition to having general strength/aesthetic goals, I also had a cranky elbow injury, exacerbated by desk work, that I need to work through. John found the perfect balance between these goals. We started with a very careful assessment of my experience, my goals, and the equipment I had on hand (only two 15lb dumbbells at the time). John was able to create a program that was challenging, injury-conscious, and based mostly on body weight. Eventually I progressed (and saw enough results!) that I was inspired to get a couple of kettlebells to continuing advancing my routines. But what made working with John special is his knowledge, care, and flexibility. He started every session with a check-in -- not just of how my body was feeling, but how my I was doing and what was going on in life. This not only helped John to tweak his plan for the day if needed, but it helped our relationship feel less transactional and more like friends (which in the pandemic, was very welcomed!) John really knows his stuff, and was able to explain the logic behind each exercise and variation. I eventually had to pause my sessions due to finances on my end, but because of John's excellent teaching regarding the logic of building a program for yourself, I have been able to carry on for almost 6 months now on my own, and I am still seeing results. After years of struggling to make it off the starting block with my fitness goals, and after years to haphazardly following whatever a friend or random video would tell me, I finally feel like I have some ownership of my fitness, and that's all thanks to the work I did with Fit Club. Can't recommend...
