NYC has many gift shops, and they seem like a dime a dozen. My friend Robby and I were hanging out Saturday and decided to go into a gift shop(Not Gifts on the Square). We saw a King Kong figurine on the Empire State Building and saw it was for sale for $17.99. I was flabbergasted and went to a different shop. This time it was $16.99. We decided to see how different the items were in price. We ended up going to 10 different shops with insane prices for one figurine. Our second to last shop doesn't have the price written down, and wanted $10. Disgusted, we left.
We go to Gifts on the Square, barely 3 doors down. We walk in and there's faux wood flooring, no stinging lights, and the cashier says hello. We see the same exact figurine, and we take a guess for the price. We flip it and I'm shocked and say out loud "it's actually reasonable"?! It was $5.99. The cashier says "we're the only ones who give a fair price". And I could confirm it was! I was amazed and told him. I feel bad for tourists who get ripped off by these tours, but Gifts on the Square restored my faith. I often get asked by people about visiting New York City and I go through my list of lesser known tips. I have a new one now - "If you want a souvenir that's good quality and a fair price, go the Gifts on the Square, it's the only one that will be kind to you", and I will always recommend this store 100%. I wish I had the owner and attendant's name otherwise I would mention it here. I wish them nothing but the best and I hope their business thrives for years to come. I hope they can expand and can continue to make a fair place for people to get great gifts in a...
Read moreWe saw this shop after having lunch at Ray's Pizza and made a last-minute decision to stop in. I'm so glad we did! We were assisted by Ang and Keith, who were both incredibly kind and helpful. They went above and beyond to help us find exactly what we were looking for.
Keith mentioned that the store has been family-owned for 40 years, and their pride in the business really shines through. They even encourage customers to shop around if they’re unsure about a purchase—something you don’t often hear these days!
They have so many great items to choose from. I'm sure you will find the perfect souvenir to commemorate your trip to New York.
We were so impressed by the friendly service and great prices that we returned after our tour to buy even more.
Although it was the end of May, it was very cold outside. I decided I needed some gloves. We went out of our way to head back to Gifts on the Square. Once again, I was thoroughly impressed with their over the top customer service. They did not have any gloves out in the store, but Keith did not hesitate to get some of their stock from the back so I could purchase them. I was so grateful!
I highly recommend this store. You won’t be disappointed by the welcoming staff, unbeatable prices, and outstanding...
Read moreHave to echo many other reviews. The two staff members were super-friendly and not at all pushy like staff in other gift stores nearby. Their prices were definitely cheaper than the others, my son got a Yankees baseball cap for $35 that was priced between $40 and $50 in the other stores we visited. T-shirts that we bought for $18 were $25 in some other stores. In fact the owner suggested we go compare the prices in other stores before we bought anything from him (which we did) so that we were happy that they were the cheapest. It may not be as big as some of the others but they carried what we were looking for. Would definitely recommend them to anyone looking for gifts...
