Disappointed doesn’t even begin to describe my last experience shopping at this store. I’ve been a loyal customer since 2017 and have absolutely adored all of the pieces I’ve gotten here. However, the jewelry is not cheap and so I only treat myself on very special occasions. I just achieved a huge career milestone and my birthday is next week so I went in to reward myself with earrings. The woman working in the shop spent the first ten minutes talking to her boyfriend on her cellphone. I waited patiently because I wanted to learn about the meaning behind two pieces I was eyeing. When I finally got her attention, I shared a little bit about what brought me in and was shocked to be put on the defense as she condemned the opportunity I had worked so hard to achieve as immoral. She lectured me for a solid 15 minutes about my values and intentions, forcing me to defend my entire existence. All I wanted was a pair of earrings and instead I left empty handed, being made to feel like I was somehow a bad person by someone who didn’t even know me. My friend and I walked past and went in and we were very interested in getting something but we were very surprised about the price and on top of that the rudeness of the lady. Once we knew we were getting to get something there was an outlet to charge our phones, we were planning to charge and buy something and she came up to us and said “did you only come in to charge your phones” which caught us for off guard and didn’t make us want to buy anything. My friend still wanted to buy something and was interested in a pair of earrings and ended up deciding on a ring to get for her mom. The lady, I kid you not, grabbed her iPad and smacked my friends back and lectured her about being proud of her culture and language and to get the pair of earrings but my friend didn’t want to spend that much especially on a pair of earrings she didn’t really like. Racist - plain and simple. First let me say that I have been a regular and profitable patron of this establishment. I always felt the vibe was a bit off, but didn't really pay much mind to it. This also changed horribly a couple of weeks ago when I sent in my African American nanny to pick something up for me. She was utterly disrespected and discriminated against by the lady that was working there (while a second employee looked on and did nothing). Of course I was disgusted but was willing to gave the store a chance to explain. Rather than even engage me, they defaulted to a tone deaf defensive posture that my nanny "simply misinterpreted what was happening". How do you misinterpret someone refusing to service you and rather deal with the white man that came after you?
