Stars are earned for consistency, in my eyes. I have been a customer of this Gristedes for no less than nine years. It has always been a quick spot items can be picked up. It is not a huge story. For what it is sizewise it has a good offering with product that is fresh.
The staff is friendly. There are faces I have known over the years. They are friendly.
If you have a complaint, tell the owner. He is not shy. He owns a radio station in NYC.
The store is down the street from Brookfield Mall, near enough by to the World Trade Center, near enough by to the Hudson River, across the street from where FINRA now has its NYC offices, I am told, in the heart of apartment buildings. It is taxi and bus proximate, next door to a mani pedi place.
As for prices? Dont blame the store, blame the politics. You voted it in if you are a New Yorker.....

Read moreGristedes is a large enough chain to not have to price gauge, but it appears they do, at least at this location. Many of the items here are significantly priced up. I was shocked at my total last night, when I initially went because I assumed it would be more affordable than Whole Foods. One example:
6 rolls of Bounty paper towels here are $28.99. Whole Foods same amount $20, $12 at Wegmans. The man at the register rang up the mozzarella twice which I did not catch until later (there was a line waiting on me and only one register open).
Something fishy is definitely going on here, especially because the owner of Gristedes is John Catsimatidis, whose net worth is $4.5 billion. If they had fair prices and improved their food quality and staffing, more customers would come in to the store - there would be no need to...

As of last night, there have now been multiple occasions where the personnel at the checkout have tried to take my money beyond what was charged.
Back in the summer, I was shorted $1 and noticed right away. The employee asked me "Are you sure?" He and I both knew that I gave him a $10 bill of which I gave him back the change and yes found out that he shorted me $1.
Last night, a worse situation played out. After checking out with a credit card, we were asked if we wanted a receipt and said no. Today, I find out that there was an additional $20 charged because apparently we had received $20 cash back.
I have filed charges to reprimand the situation as well as contacted Gristedes corporate but be forewarned these guys are a...
