This is my favorite place in the city for really great prices steak and craft beers(not great prices but I expect that). On the lower level is one of the best steak places I've been to. It's a deli counter style; pick your meat, the amount you want, and take it to go or cook it there. They charge $8 to cook your steak and it comes with fries and a salad. If you get a cheaper cut, like sirloin or flank, you can literally get away with having a top quality USDA PRIME steak in Manhattan for about $20 including tip! That's insane!!!
Now, get a couple beers, cocktails, or glasses of wine and kiss your cheap eats goodbye. $8 for beer, $12 for cocktails and wine varies. They have a wine bar which I cannot comment on since I am a beer guy. Everyone else seems to enjoy it though. The beer is mostly craft beer. I like a good kronenburgh or hoegarden off the draft with orange.
Moving away from steak, they have cold cuts deli with a signature iberico ham leg sitting there(you can't miss it) $176/lb, yes you read that correctly, but ever so worth it. It is something to savor with enjoyment so I'll get 4 small slices for a serving which costs me $4. That's good for me. They, of course, have all your other top quality meats like chorizo, prosciutto, salame, etc. The cheese deli is mediocre at best. Mostly French inspired American made cheese with a small selection of real French cheese. But the quality is high and I'm sure you can find good stuff.
Seafood! There's a seafood bar too with the best of the best quality, again. Small selection but definitely Check it out. While I do like like them myself, I am told my many that the oysters are the best they have ever had in their entire life. By that logic, try them if you like oysters.
Still at the first level, they also have a lounge bar which has a bit of a night life feel due to the low lighting at night and interesting light fixtures and selection of music. Great place to hang around at night. There's also a small grocery store on the first level as well for your limited grocery needs.
2nd floor: an artisan and top quality food court. This is not your kids cafeteria. Food and experience will vary of course. But they have a great selection of restaurants, many with individual locations elsewhere in the city, from bbq, Mexican, to sushi and cup cakes.
Finally, it's worth the mention of some fashion stores in the main area, Burberry, Salvatore Ferragamo, omega watches, and more coming soon. There's also an underground bypass to the path train which goes under the World Trade Center, if you can find it. Ask a security guard if you can't.
Verdict: some of the best quality food you'll find. It is inspired by French cuisine and culture, however, if you know anything about the French live, you won't find it here. They did not even have butter for a croissant that I wanted to order. Am I supposed to eat it dry? Anyway, I love this place but just remember that the only place to have a true French experience is where those people live, either in France, Montreal, or Quebec.
Happy eating at...
Read moreLe District proved to be an unmitigated disaster during my recent visit for a birthday lunch. The culmination of inadequacies in service and cuisine was nothing short of appalling.
Hostile Service: The server’s attitude at Le District was nothing short of hostile. Rather than making diners feel welcome, there was an unsettling aura of apathy and rudeness. The server’s lack of willingness to be even minimally friendly was a source of immense frustration. This egregious behavior tarnished the entire dining experience. Culinary Mediocrity at Exorbitant Prices: One might expect that a dining establishment in NYC, demanding exorbitant prices, would at least deliver an exceptional culinary experience. However, Le District failed miserably in this regard. The dishes served were a culinary mediocrity at best. The taste and presentation were far from the standard one would expect at such prices. It was an insult to discerning palates and a clear attempt to overcharge for underwhelming fare. A Memory to Suppress: My visit to Le District stands out as a day of regret. It’s saddening that a restaurant, chosen for a special occasion, could turn what should have been a memorable day into an event that one would prefer to erase from memory. The stark contrast between the anticipation of a celebratory experience and the grim reality of what was offered at Le District was truly disheartening. Conclusion: It was nothing short of a disaster. The hostile service, coupled with subpar cuisine, left a bitter taste in more ways than one. For a restaurant in a city renowned for its culinary diversity, this establishment not only failed to meet expectations but fell significantly below them. A visit to Le District was a stark reminder that the culinary industry’s reputation hinges on excellence in all aspects, and this place was an unequivocal failure in delivering even the most basic elements of a satisfactory...
Read moreThe customer service at Le District was horrible! The outside hostess that was working Friday evening (5/31) was rude and clueless! She barely acknowledged us or the line of people waiting behind us to be seated. We received no hello or anything when we walked up, and she randomly walked away multiple times with no announcement. She told us that we could wait shortly for a seat and then walked away. When we asked again, once she decided to come back, she stated that there was no more outside seating for the evening. When we explained that she had just contradicted herself she was like, oh well, and then walked away again.
We were going to just seat ourselves, and happened to see a gentleman who looked like the manager in a suit, but he brushed us off as well, and said I'll be back as he walked away waiving his hand at us. After that horrible interaction and bad first impression we decided to leave and go to the restaurant across from it called P.J. Clarke's, which ended up being great.
P.J. Clarke's had EXCELLENT customer service, and the experience was like night and day. Kudos to the management and staff at P.J. Clarke's!!! Le District I suggest that you get your act together! The outside ambiance looked fabulous but the attitudes, unprofessionalism, and clear lack of regard for new customers was appalling.
I've been to many restaurants all over the world and have never felt so slighted. I love being a Google influencer because I love leaving great reviews of fabulous places and taking great pics to share my experiences with others. What an opportunity you missed out on to have had a positive review and free advertising for your establishment, also to have gained new faithful patrons. Well we'll see you from afar when we revisit P.J....
