I live nearby so I have come to this place around 4 or 5 times in over two years. The food and service have been generally great. However, on the night of Tuesday November 21, I was with a friend of mine and my wife, and my friend, who is an Iraqi survivor and U.S. citizen, whose brother was killed by Al Qaeda and was a former interpreter for the U.S. military, had been privately expressing disappointment, as an Iraqi, about the loose use of the term "genocide" to describe the ongoing Israel and Hamas conflict. At some point towards the end of the night, this gentleman, who was a huge bully and body-builder type (looked possibly as a plain clothes policeman, and just generally someone dangerous), came to our table out of nowhere to insult my friend. He got on his face purporting to "defend the thousands of people killed in Gaza" and threatening to physically assault him. He said he was former U.S. military, and when my friend told him he was also former U.S. military that had fought in Iraq, he still got worked up and threatened to assault him. My friend, myself and my wife, left the bar to avoid a confrontation with a drunk man. A couple of the bar's locals who probably new this guy stopped him from unilaterally assaulting my friend. It also looked like the bartender (a Latin lady) knew this guy, but she did nothing to call the police (there was no bouncer at the place) and denounce this person's imminent assault on a civil, sober patron who happened to be sitting at a table nearby. I'm a Christian and my friend is an atheist, but, in the context of what the world's living now because of the Israel-Palestine conflict, I would recommend any Israeli or Jewish person looking for a safe bar to go to in the Financial District or Battery Park City to avoid this place, as this aggressive person may be there, considering he seemed to be a local...
Read moreWent on a Sunday evening with a group of friends to try their restaurant week promo of $45 three course meal, Mon-Friday + Sunday.
The place was surprisingly mostly empty, maybe because it was Sunday. The food was really good. From the 3 course we tried beet humus with pita, fried calamari (both appetizers), burger, dulce de leche ice cream and passion fruit sorbet. There was not one thing that wasn’t good. The burger was juicy and huge, the hummus was tasty, the ice cream was sweet. We ordered 3 flights of their draft beers, which is a must try if you like beer and it was only $15.
They have lots of sitting, hightop tables, long diner style; multiple board games like uno, monopoly, jenga and such. They also have a section for air hockey, the claw (surprisingly easy to win), and hit the clown. We enjoyed the ping pong table and there was also table soccer and a beer pong table. Honestly overall seems like a great place for a big group looking to have a chill party game night.
Service was good and the food arrived quickly to the table! But after closing the tab we decided to stay a bit longer to play some cards cause we were genuinely enjoying ourselves. One of my friends asked for the drink menu again and it never arrived but we saw everyone cleaning and I guess getting ready to close, even tho there was 1 hour left until their closing time. We got the hint after a bit of a wait and decided to leave.
Regardless of that last part, the experience was great overall and we all enjoyed ourselves enough to decide we wanted to go back at...
Read moreBeing a local resident and the Treadwell being a few minutes walk from our our apt it has always been a preferred spot over the last 7 years. We have seen the staff come and go, the name change and it be reborn and have always supported it and overall enjoyed our time here. The food is pretty solid and it has a good selection of beers. Our kids always enjoy coming here and its "easy". So the reason for the one score is based on a recent experience. I happened to leave a pair of sunglasses one lunch time. I called and one of the staff had put them behind the bar (as i come regularly) I came back a few days later and spoke with the staff member that I knew and he went to get them. It seemed they had been moved and thought the manager might have them. I said i would come back next day. To cut the story shorter the manager from that point on claimed that they had never been handed in and also made claims that the staff member never held them for me and I was essentially making it up. I offered to review the bar security footage from the day i left them until day I came back to identify who might of moved them. They balked, spluttered and denied any existence despite the staff member placing them behind the bar for me. If you cannot trust management to do the right thing who can you trust. Unfortunately that particular pair, brand cannot be replaced! They treat the local residents...
