Trained here for six months before moving out of state and absolutely loved it. I went to both Muay Thai and BJJ classes.
Muay Thai I've trained some Muay Thai for around 2 years total. Classes here usually consist of some warm-up (jumping rope, running, etc.), some pad work and technique, concluded by some ab workout (planks, situps, etc.). Instructors have all actually fought before and are very knowledgeable. There's a strong focus on fundamentals. Folks are all friendly, and it's very beginner welcoming.
BJJ I've trained BJJ for around 1.5 years total. Classes here typically have sometimes warmup, always drilling, sometimes positional sparring, and always full sparring. There's a great balance of Gi/No-gi classes. Content also is well mixed and includes standup, leglocks, and fundamentals (plenty of BJJ places stay away from the former two). Again, all the BJJ folks are friendly and beginner welcoming.
Misc The gym is very close to Court Square station. Cost is also reasonable compared to other gyms I've seen in the city. The place is also spotless - mats are cleaned frequently. I don't know of anyone who's gotten ring worm or...
Read moreDuring my year in LIC, I trained at Hinds. This was after my 8-month hiatus (due to hamstring surgery), so I wanted to pick a spot that prioritized safety. I started with private lessons with Coach Sean Hinds who was very patient with me as I eased back into my martial arts training. I liked that he covered a lot of fundamental concepts in each lesson which included the clinch and trips.
Soon, I transitioned to taking the Muay Thai and jiu-jitsu classes there. I always felt very safe, and I NEVER got injured. The classes were very fun, as the instructors covered basics and modern topics. One of the instructors - Kyle - is a leglock specialist, so definitely check out his classes.
My favorite day is Sunday because after Jeff's no-gi class, there is a Muay Thai class followed by SPARRING. The sparring is broken down to boxing, kickboxing, then clinch. Sparring always reminds me of how much I have to learn still, but it's a great time. I miss those the most.
Overall, 5/5 gym, clean, safe, friendly, fun. I met a lot of cool, fascinating...

I’ve been part of two gyms previously, but joining Hinds was a game-changer. Hinds does it like no other. From the fair pricing and spacious facilities to the top-of-the-line coaches with both amateur and professional combat experience, everything here is exceptional. The most important aspect, though, is the incredible family-like community.

The coaches are incredibly supportive and tailor their instruction to all skill levels. You’ll find experienced, training partners eager to help you improve weekly, as well as beginners just starting their Muay Thai journey.
