PEACE. AT. LAST. TL;DR: I hired Hush Soundproofing to insulate the hollow party wall (interior) between my apartment and the neighbor. The results are excellent. I highly recommend Ned and his team at Hush Soundproofing. For a very detailed review, please continue reading!

For more than 20 years, I treated my apartment like a ‘starter apartment’. Coming to accept that it’s not temporary, I decided it was time to make improvements and the #1 priority was serenity.

For these 2+ decades, I have referred to my next-door neighbor as my invisible roommate. I could hear everything: full conversations, TV, coughing, sneezing, you name it. One example: my neighbor would walk in, turn on the TV and then get on the phone. Since he couldn’t hear the other person so well over the TV, he’d turn the phone volume all the way up. I could hear him, the TV and the person on the phone. During the day, I would have to turn on jazz in order to concentrate on work. In the evenings, I had to use white noise in order to hear my own TV over the din from next door. It became unbearable.

Because I lived with this for so many years, I had done my research. I KNEW the only way to resolve the noise between apartments is decoupling the walls. When I came across Hush Soundproofing and watched Ned’s video, I was confident they were the right team.

Doing my due diligence, I spoke with another soundproofing company. They were more expensive. And they told me that my job was too small for them (rude.). Small to them. Huge to me. I think this is really key about Ned, he cares about his clients. He wants to bring them peace. He knows how maddening and disruptive noise can be, and he wants his clients to be happy in their homes (or offices, studios).

From the time that I first contacted him through the job, everything progressed forward, consistently and in an organized fashion. I very much appreciated Hush Soundproofing’s contract and process. I felt that both parties were protected. Hush Soundproofing is licensed and insured and there was no issue getting the COI from Ned (crucial for co-ops). Ned did sound testing / measurement before and after. He was very honest that the soundproofing would not be 100% and he wanted to manage my expectations. But I would estimate that it is 90% improved. Please take note… sound-engineered drywall attached to your existing wall with green glue does not work. I know this from personal experience.

The team respected the building’s work hours and was on-site and ready to start as soon as permitted. They did not stay past time and cleaned each day before they left. The work was done in the exact amount of time estimated and within the budget. The work was excellent. AND as they were skim coating the wall, they saw that the space around my radiator had gaping holes. Out of nowhere, they just patched it. They didn’t have to do this. They just saw something broken and fixed it.

Ned kept in communication with me throughout the process. He truly cared about the outcome for me and called a few weeks later to see how life was in my space. As I noted above, it’s 90% improved. We weren’t able to do the full treatment in the hallway due to space restrictions. We also could not treat the space under the floors. Ned had identified all the areas that noise was traveling through, into my apartment. So those spaces where we didn’t apply the full treatment is where some noise finds its way in, but again, this is a minimal amount of noise.

Right now, I have angels as my upstairs neighbors, but when they decide to move, I will be calling Ned and Hush Soundproofing to soundproof the bedroom ceiling.

If we could give more than 5 stars, we would. Working with Ned and his team went way beyond our expectations. We wanted to soundproof our apartment floors and did quite a bit of research and experimenting before contacting a professional. We tried various rugs with fancy padding beneath them, foam mats, and more, but nothing seemed to do the job we needed it to. From the first day Ned came over to assess our situation, it was not only clear that he knew what he was doing but also that he was trustworthy and actually cared about getting the job done well (and aesthetically pleasing). We started the job and completed it as quickly as possible - 4 layers of soundproofing over our original flooring (so it can be taken out if we move with little to no repercussions). Ned communicated with us throughout the whole process, sending photos/ videos, helping out with flooring decisions (he has a good eye for design), and answering our many questions along the way. He even played a mediator role with our neighbors (the reason we did this), one that I'm not sure anyone else could have managed with such grace and patience. In the end, the floors look WAAAAY better than we could have imagined, and they managed to cover wall-to-wall without having to trim the doors or compromise original molding. We are so grateful and couldn't recommend a better person...

Ned and his team are an absolute blessing. I called him about soundproofing my bedroom ceiling to block out creaking floors in my upstairs neighbor’s apartment that routinely woke me up before 4am for an entire year. He wasted no time getting me all the paperwork for my coop and starting the job so I could be on my way to actually getting a full night of sleep so I could function in my life again. The building super was so impressed with all of the members of Ned’s team that he asked for their information to add Hush to the list of preferred vendors. Ned also corrected the work of a previous contractor that attempted to soundproof my living room wall that was still allowing the noise from my neighbor’s TV to come through. The previous contractor had failed to seal gaps behind the baseboard to the floor and the outlets weren’t addressed, essentially leaving gaping holes from one apartment to the other. Ned even took the time to make sure my internet was back up and running before he left and that I could reinstall my blackout curtains to enjoy a peaceful night of rest the same night. I’m so grateful to have found Ned and Hush Soundproofing because I would not be enjoying the same quality of life that I finally am had he not come to address my situation. I can’t recommend having Ned and his team do this work...
