I broke my nokia 808 three days after getting it. I live close to NYC, so I figured based on the reviews, Jack's Place would be a good alternative to Palco Cell repair.
I filled out the shipping form on Jack's website and waited. A day went by and I still had no emails or calls. On their website it says "You will receive and email confirmation upon completion of this form.". I never did receive that email.
The next day I called them up and asked if they could repair my phone. They said yes, and to send it in. Later that day I emailed them a couple questions I had about the repair process. I never received a reply to that email either.
The phone arrived at Jack's place via fedex on Aug 22. I called later that day to verify they received it, since I still had no communication from them about the questions I had asked. I mentioned "hey I've tried contacting you guys a couple times but I never hear any response unless I call you". His answer was basically.... ya so what?
Then the following Friday I called to see how the repair was coming, and they said the part was back ordered a week from Nokia. Ok. That sucks but what can I do right?
The next week on Thursday (Aug 30) I called to see if the part was in, and they said "it will be another week". Bummer.
On Sept 5 I called again, still having never heard from them about the questions I had emailed. They said, "the part will be in Friday, and once we get it, it won't take long to repair. We'll give you a call". Also I asked about pricing and they it would be $175 for replacing the front glass. That's the only thing that was broken. That's about 1/3 the price of a brand new phone. Yikes. But...what can you do?
On Sept 12 I called again, and they said "Oh ya we're just finishing it up now....". We then arranged shipping information and I paid in full over the phone.
On Sept 14 I received a call from Jack's place (the first ever!) asking me which apartment I lived in, because the driver needed to know. I had shipped my phone FROM my place of business STRAIGHT to Jack's Place, and requested it be sent BACK to my place of business. This is not an apartment, or anything of the sort.
I told them I worked at xxxxx and just to drop it off at reception. Later that afternoon, the fedex driver shows up and says " is this for someone who works here?"
The package had my name incorrectly spelled, a COMPLETELY wrong address (not even an easy mistake, but 100% WAY WRONG), and NO company name or attention line. The town was also misspelled on the package.
The only reason that driver knew where to deliver it, was that Jack's place apparently mentioned "xxxxx" on the phone, and the driver knew where it was, since he makes so many deliveries to us.
The phone actually seems to be perfectly repaired, and I can't see any visual blemishes. In that regard they did a good job.
Cliff notes: Terrible communication, bad customer service, and horrible accuracy with regards to shipping, but the actual work...
Read moreAvoid this place when possible. I bought a Refurbished iPhone 6 there. I'm a French tourist travelling to New York. Iphone 6 worth around $200. They sold it to me for $300. Already that is not acceptable. Then the battery went dead the next day of the purchase. I brought it back to get it changed. They changed it with a used battery again. Now one week later, battery last for 3 hours and then the phone shutdown. In the phone settings, it indicates a very high battery wear level. I'm now far from New York and of course no way to go back there. They say I can ship it back for a refund but I do not trust these guys enough to send them back the phone with...
Read moreI called ahead with my specific issue, a (mechanically) broken power button on a galaxy S2. They said they had dealt with this kind of issue before, quoted me a price if it was this kind of issue and said that I could walk in. When I got there, they said they would need to have it for a couple of hours so they could diagnose the problem: "it might be the motherboard".
Three hours later they said they couldn't fix the issue.
They lied to me about their experience, what kind of service they could offer and exercised a free option on the possibility that it might just be a software issue.
Avoid this place, they are old...
