We went to see him, because our cardiologist said that my husband might be needing a defibrillator and suggested to talk to Dr. Ip to see if this was indeed the case.
Dr. Ip had an assistant /student dr.?? come in first and ask some questions. Then they had him do an EKG. Then Dr. Ip came in. He looked at the notes from the cardiologist and said within 5 minutes, "well I believe the cardiologist did all the test necessary, so when do you want to do the procedure?"
For something this serious, we came to Dr. Ip to make sure a defibrillator is what my husband indeed needed, go over all the tests that were done before, do some extra tests to double check and listen to our concerns...... We felt we were rushed. We felt uncomfortable, like this was just some other procedure Dr. Ip can add to his record. We decided to get a second opinion a couple months later. My husband started taking a new medication that the cardiologist prescribed three months earlier and can improve your heart significantly. The Dr. from whom we got the second opinion, did some extra test that my husband hadn't done before. And on top of that the ejection fraction had jumped back up 18 points. So my husband does not need a defibrillator at this moment. Thank goodness. This may be the exception case, but if we had just gone with Dr. Ip, rushed into this procedure, my husband would have had a device by his heart for life!!
This shows you, that you always have to follow your instinct when you are not sure or when something doesn't feel right. I'm thankful that there are medical doctors that don't rush for procedures and double check things, to make sure it is what the patient needs or doesn't need. There are plenty of those doctors around and who also make you feel comfortable.
Even if my husband needed a defibrillator now, we would not have done this procedure with Dr. Ip. We were really disappointed with how disorganized this office is (we were told on the phone everything was good with the insurance, when we came there they said it wasn't and that they needed a referral, we had to wait 45min to get this sorted out) and disappointed with Dr. Ip and staff, we didn't feel they were listening to us and that they didn't really care, just another number that needs...
Read moreI am a physician in this hospital - far senior to Dr Ip BtW - and he has cared for me expertly and compassionately for several years. Today I had an AFib ablation and again could not have been more impressed with him nor more satisfied with the entire procedure. Ever since I scheduled the procedure, physician friends at other institutions have been asking me why I wasn’t going to one of the more senior folks (who I know are also terrific). Interestingly I’ve not heard that from anybody HERE because the home base knows how capable he is. In fact a very senior member of the faculty who is very close to the situation Told me that if a family member needed an ablation he’d send them to Dr Ip. BTW he has plenty of experience. He’s not as young as he looks. Awhile ago I searched him to find his number in a pinch and saw these reviews. At the time there were only the two 1-star reviews which I think are from the same patient and spouse and mostly contain some complaints - probably valid - about Office Operations because we all know those functions aren’t always perfect. I’m glad that In the interim more and more people have come here to share their praise. He’s a 5 star doctor, not a 1 star doctor, on his worst day. I’d use him again in a heartbeat...
Read moreMy pacemaker was implanted yesterday at the hand of Dr. James Ip, Weill Cornell Hospital, New York .
The very high quality of execution was evident in all phases: the prep and previews and post implant probation seamlessly meshed with the procedure itself. All were quickly accomplished with full attention to the comfort and concerns of this patient.
What in fact requires finesse and elegance were made to appear to be as routine as a shave and haircut—seemingly a magic trick that had me outbound in six hours.
Within the limits of my competence to comment, there is no improvement I would make or could image.
All was consistent with Weill Cornell’s rank in the handful of best hospitals in the Country.
