This place has all the making of being a great medical center...except when it doesn’t. The physicians here are great, and their investment in IT infrastructure is amazing- their app is the best I’ve seen. But unfortunately their support staff, some of the nursing staff, and their billing office (or lack of one. i should say) is abysmal. On my first visit, one of the nurses taking my history put down I am a smoker, heavy drinker and drug user (for the record, I am not). I figured that out at my second visit when the nurse was going through my history, and I actually thought she had pulled up the wrong person’s chart. Fine-mistakes happen and this one was east enough to fix. But then I started to notice that the physician billing services seemed to be all over the place. The amounts they were quoting were different than what insurance was saying, which pretty much means that they were breaking their contract agreement with United heathcare. I had tried calling their billing office Many times had repetitively left messages, and never actually talk to a live person and nobody ever called me back. Because it was always the matter of five or $10, I really didn’t make an issue of it. Most recently, NYU changed one of my medical appointments, with no explanation. When I asked them about it, the support staff gave me a horrible attitude. It turned out they had booked another procedure at the same time as mine, and I guess that meant they needed to move mine. Again, mistakes happen, but this woman gave me the worst attitude about it, as though they’re giving me free medical care and I dont get to question anything. You know what? They most certainly are not giving away anything for free. My insurance has paid them close to $14,000 for procedures this year. And they aren’t even done processing things through insurance. They have several thousand dollars more coming.I then followed up with questions as to my most recent notice from NYU that I owe them a couple hundred dollars, when I knew that in fact they didn’t. I once again got an attitude from them, and they couldn’t direct me any further than to call the same number that I already have tried to call where nobody ever answers. For good measure, I tried calling their office again today, and after 20 minutes on hold without speaking to a live person, I finally hung up. I then called the patient services people, who swore that they would speak to the managers there and that I would get a call by the end of the day. Surprise surprise, I never got that call.I had planned on switching my medical care to NYU, but after today’s experience, I went through and canceled all the rest of my future appointments with them. I think I’m fine with just going back to one of the many many other choices I have for good medical care...

Last year I saw Dr. Olivia Buck here for a regular annual check up. At that point I indicated to her that I was trying to become pregnant the following year, and she said something like “great we will see you then”. So far so good.
Fast forward to today, and I am pregnant. I called to schedule my first pregnancy appointment and was told that Dr. Buck has no openings on her schedule, at all, ever. She appears to still be employed there and I never got to the bottom of what happened. So, I agreed to be scheduled with someone else. They only asked if I had a gender preference, which I didn’t.
A week before my scheduled appointment I log onto the mychart and to my dismay see that they have scheduled me with a MIDWIFE. Not an MD. At no point did I indicate to them that I would be ok being followed by a nurse instead of a doctor, nor was this fact disclosed to me at the time of scheduling.
Do I called them back and expressed my dissatisfaction. Two or three phone calls later and here’s the outcome:
I am at a complete loss how they think they can follow a pregnancy, which requires multiple appointments at specific times during pregnancy, given this distinction. STAY AWAY.
Now as a result of their administrative malpractice, I had to scramble to find care. I lost time because of them and now won’t have my first prenatal appointment until i am in week 22!!! This place is the worst and I would give them zero...

I called ahead of time to let them know I’d be arriving roughly 10 minutes after my scheduled time (1:50) but that I was on my way. The receptionist said absolutely, no problem, we’ll see you soon. I arrived at 2:02, started my check-in at the kiosk, but finished the in-person “verification” process at roughly 2:08. After doing all of this, (took a little longer than expected, insurance verification issues), I was told that I could not be seen, as I had “passed the 15 minute grace period” for this particular provider. I calmly explained the situation, re-informed them I had called ahead of time, and that I had physically arrived and started the checkin before the 15 minutes. Considering I rushed to get here and informed them over the phone that I was on my way, this was a big disappointment and surprise, as I had not been informed at all about any grace period and was instead told verbatim that there was no problem.
Additionally, I then had to wait 30 more minutes for them to finally confirm from the provider themselves that they would not see me. Considering that my visit was simply for a quick, annual physical examination (and that my actual arrival time was not outside the grace period, nor was it egregiously late like arriving 1 hour later), I was very upset they did not try to better accommodate my appointment time - and could only find any appointment for any internal medicine / primary care physician, NP, PA or DO at their large practice more than 2 weeks later.
I have been with NYU Langone for years now, and all my interactions with providers and all staff have been nothing but overwhelmingly positive. For a hospital system like NYU Langone, I expect much better communication and efforts from the front office desk staff to accommodate patients whose situations aren’t out of the ordinary - nor the patient’s attitude disrespectful or rude. The minimum they could have done was inform me of the grace period previously of the phone so I could have taken a quicker transportation method otherwise or gone...
