Joyeria Pepe — Local services in New York

As a local business owner myself, I try to support other small businesses in the community. Today, while FaceTiming my husband, a few watches in the display of this jewelry store caught my attention. My husband asked me to go inside and take a closer look, so I did.

After being buzzed in, one gentleman was working on the display and another (the doorman/security) was by the entrance. When I pointed to the watch I was interested in, the doorman abruptly said, “You can’t put your hand in there.” I was taken aback, because I wasn’t reaching for anything, nor would I ever attempt to reach into a display case — I was pointing the salesperson standing right there.

The comment felt unnecessary, unprofessional, and frankly insulting. The insinuation behind it left me very uncomfortable. SO I WALKED OUT!! It’s a shame, because I genuinely came in as a serious customer and likely would have purchased multiple watches.

I strongly suggest management provide better training in customer etiquette to the door staff. A simple respectful interaction goes a long way in making customers...

I don't usually write reviews, however, having had such outstanding service at Joyeria Pepe, I felt I needed to share my experience. I was looking for an earring and necklace set for my daughter's birthday. From the moment I entered the store I was made to feel so comfortable. The sales people working there were so friendly and helpful... and may I add - patient with me.
