Katagiri Japanese Grocery in New York is a true gem, a cultural and culinary treasure trove that transports visitors to the heart of Japan. This grocery store is a sensory delight, offering a meticulously curated selection of authentic Japanese products.

What makes Katagiri exceptional is its commitment to providing a genuine taste of Japan. From fresh produce to specialty ingredients, the store's shelves are a journey through the diverse flavors of Japanese cuisine. The quality and authenticity of their offerings make it a go-to destination for those seeking the real essence of Japan in the heart of New York City.

The ambiance is inviting, and the neatly organized aisles contribute to a pleasant shopping experience. Katagiri not only satisfies the needs of home cooks but also serves as an educational space, introducing customers to the richness of Japanese culinary traditions.

Katagiri has been open since 1907 and is the oldest Japanese grocery store/market in NYC - you can read the history of the store on their website. They have two stores (the other is on E 59th) and neither one is particularly big. The Grand Central store carries almost everything you would need to make Japanese dishes, but the produce section is limited. Somehow, they manage to cram outposts of Omusubi Gonbei and Brooklyn Ramen into the store as well. I’ve never tried the ramen, but the omusubi are made fresh with rice from Hokkaido and are quite good with an interesting assortment of fillings. The fresh fish/seafood and sushi/sashimi takeout is outsourced to Osakana, which is based in the East Village. In addition, they also carry their own range of various take-out bento which are kept warm and priced well.

If you are looking for some good, quick Japanese take-out, Katagiri is a great option in the Grand Central area. The only downside is that there is no seating, but when the weather is nice, you can walk over to Bryant Park and enjoy your meal there. Otherwise, you can always go to the dining concourse at...

Step right up and get ready to be transported back to Tokyo, right in the heart of this authentic Japanese grocery store! The bustling atmosphere will make you feel like you've stepped into a lively train station, but fear not, because the rewards are worth it.

We're talking about the freshest sushi, mouth-watering prepared foods, and the tastiest ramen you've ever had. And if you're feeling adventurous, take a stroll down the beautifully packaged aisles of dry and refrigerated foods. But don't worry if you don't speak the language, just whip out your trusty Google Lens translator and you're good to go!

And let's talk about efficiency, shall we? You won't believe your eyes when you witness a 20 person deep line at the register clear in just 6 minutes with speed and precision. It's like watching a well-oiled machine in action.

So, if you want to experience a slice of Japan without leaving your city, this grocery store is where it's at. Don't miss out on the chance to indulge in the finest Japanese cuisine and culture. Hop on the train and come on down, you won't be...

I went to Katagiri with a friend and ty for sharing it with me cause who would’ve thought? 💸 The onigiri did not go over $5, the bowls & sushi were good sized being somewhere around $8-12, and the other bowls I showed were anywhere between $14-$18 and they were THICC!! I was surprised that there was also a mini-omakase (you could see it in the video) that costs around $11!! Crazy! I’m definitely trying that next 😍 💡 They don’t take apple pay, so make sure to have your card or cash with you! So if you’re looking for a quick bite or things to bring with you to a picnic, definitely check out this spot! ✨ Share this with someone you would get mini-omakase or sushi with 😊 📩 contact@xinugc. #ugc #ugccreator #nycfood #nycfoodrecs #nycfoodrecommendations #katagiri #japanesefood #newyorkcity #food #sushi #onigiri #omakase #miniomakase #nigiri #riceball #ramen
