My "Intro to the Wheel" class on Friday with Jack was AMAZING! This review is a bit overdue, but here goes! I have always been interested in pottery and am so glad that I found this class. Jack was an excellent teacher and shared many different ways to alter the shape of our clay. I had to restart a few times because my clay kept going off center lol, but the instructor was patient and helped me and my classmates get back on track as needed. I made 3 wonderful pieces, one of which I was able to give away as a gift for Christmas.
THANKS SO MUCH FOR HELPING ME CREATE TIMELESS ART! Picking up my finished pottery later on was so satisfying knowing how hard I worked on it - I made a small bowl, a small plate and a mini sculpture of a foot (Jack was kind enough to let me play with some clay prior to the others arriving which is how I ended up making a foot haha - many thanks to him and all the wonderful staff there). I also met one of my now good friends at this pottery class :) LAST but not least, there was a little pottery sale and raffle for a free class at the end which was lovely, Maison Clay seems to be a great social hub for those interested in the arts, as well as those cultivating more self-love - everyone looked so happy to be there. I'm glad to have had this experience and I can't wait to save up and take class again soon. Totally take this...
Read moreI went to the Intro to the Wheel and left with really valuable wheelthrowing skills! I learned a lot—Jacob is very meticulous & direct in his teaching style, which set up the class today to be a more focused one. He will tell you if a piece is unusable immediately and throw it away, don’t take it personally— he just wants you to create a practical piece. You can tell that he’s super passionate about teaching. I also asked a lot of questions and he answered all of them ◡̈
Jacob’s also very attentive and will help you out if you’re struggling (like me haha). As someone who’s had 0 experience on the wheel and with clay, it was a bit rough because I’m not super coordinated with everything but that’s to be expected. A lot of us in the class made quirky pieces, which was actually the fun part to be reminded it’s about the process.
The studio is clean & has great light. I really appreciate the more affordable rates provided here compared to other studios around the city. The class price includes glazing & firing. I can’t wait to make more pieces & become more comfortable...
