This review is for the company performance I saw last night at Columbus Circle. As a lifelong dancer, lover of the arts, and professional performer, I was excited to see Mark Morris Dance for the first time. I was shocked at how underwhelmed I was. What struck me most was the total lack of technique. I understand modern dance is a different style, but what I saw was mediocre and a total lack of any type of athleticism. Some dancers had pointed toes (Aaron) while others (the tall center girl from the Schumann piece) seemed to have flat concrete shoes attached to their feet. Most of what I saw last night had absolutely no soul. Empire Garden was excruciating and something I feel I could put together with a group of amateurs. If I said "everyone imitate a marching band!" that is what we would see I guess. Sport was cute and fun but again, watching dancers not dancing is not my idea of art. I guess flat feet and no jumps or turns could be excused for an emotional journey but we certainly weren't offered that either. I went in expecting to be moved, to feel something and left feeling blank. Most people around us were very disconnected, shifting looking around to find something more stimulating in the theater to watch. I enjoy going to NYC Ballet and always want their contemporary-ish pieces to push the envelope more, but will stick with paying to see breathtaking...
Β Β Β Read moreI was very disappointed with the customer service experience I encountered today. I called the establishment on 9/15/23 at 11:15 AM with a few questions and was met with rudeness and unprofessional behavior.
In the middle of my inquiries, a lady at the front desk abruptly hung up on me. Surprised by this, I immediately called back, hoping it was a misunderstanding. To my dismay, someone picked up the phone but disconnected the call once again. This happened not just once, but 3 times in a row.
While I understand that customer service can be challenging at times, patience and courtesy should be a priority. Many staff members excel in answering questions and providing assistance with a smile, but it only takes a few incidents like this to tarnish the overall reputation of an establishment.
I hope this review serves as constructive feedback to the management. Proper training and discipline are needed to ensure consistent and respectful...
Β Β Β Read moreI attended a Friday night session of BollyX dance class for free as part of a Brooklyn Fit series. I'm a dancer at heart but mostly in the salsa genre where I can "shake what my mama gave me" without hesitation. Though I was new to the Bollywood style of dancing, I loved every minute of class! It was a non-stop, head-to-toe workout, that left you wanting more even if you were wiped out. The instructor was high energy and the playlist was so fun. We danced about 5-6 songs and were instructed to follow our teacher's steps. Warning to those who haven't been to a dance class, the steps aren't broken down into segments. It's more of a watch and get right into the steps all at once. The class ended with a 5 minute ab series in sync with the music and a cool down. Classes are typically $15 for a drop in and they have a full schedule of classes ranging from ballet to Africand dance. I'll definitely be...
