I was a shopper at The Garden for over a decade and really loved it, the staff, the coffee at check out and several items I would buy there that I couldn't find elsewhere in the neighborhood. So The Market on Kent was of high interest to me, as it's only a block from my home. I know the neighborhood stores very very well and where to find what I want at the best prices. So here is my opinion of Market on Kent and what I like and don't like...
The prices on some of the items are outrageous.
The bread and bakery selection has become nothing special aside from a few Balthazar loaves.
They have done a good job expanding the store but it now lacks warmth and the European charm. And I miss the old staff, prepared foods and bakery of the old store.
They have made some impressive strides on bringing in items we haven't had available in the neighborhood previously, including some items I was exclusively buying at whole foods that I'm happy to buy here and support this small business.
Staff: nice they brought back the old stocking manager. Workers at the checkout are sometimes friendly but more often stonefaced and they need one friendly familiar face to work the deli.
I do appreciate the work they are putting in here, the massively expanded selection but the majority can be found nearby at a fraction of the cost. They also did a cute mural on the side of the building and are keeping the store very clean and well stocked. And I love the...
Read moreJust had the most absurdly ridiculous customer service experience at Market on Kent. Made a quick visit to buy a coconut water and cashew butter cup while en route to an appointment. Opened the candy while leaving, took the first nibble and found the butter had turned to powder. This happens often with this product when frozen and then thawed and sold. I’ve never had an issue exchanging or returning them anywhere else. Here, it turned into a 10 minute ordeal that required 2 cashiers, an in store manager and, finally, a call to the owner. All of the women who were present were unhelpful and rude, trying to gaslight me, first, claiming they didn’t see the problem. I was, understandably, irritated with the situation, which the manager decided was the problem, not the stale product on the shelf. She finally, after telling me the product was fine, called the owner and told him it should be taken off the shelf and they needed a refund from their supplier, which she disputed when I had suggested this moments before. I finally got the refund and left, but it was like I was trying to get a refund on a stolen...
Read moreI'm writing to make a suggestion re sandwiches. The sandwich selection is great, however, recently the sandwiches are made in bulk and are left by the hot bar for days just sitting there. I love the veggie wrap which is made with avocado, hummus and other veggies. The prices have gone up everywhere so I get it, but I will not pay $14 or $15 for a soggy veggie wrap that has been sitting around for days. It's also waste of food. Please go back to having the sandwiches be made when ordered by the amazing staff. I'm writing this because I have been a customer for years and some of the recent changes made me not not get lunch at your place because when I asked for a veggie wrap I was directed to a veggie mushy wrap that indicated on the package it was made on Monday and we are at the end of the week. And if you have left over pre-made sandwiches and do not want to throw them away, then reducing the price would be fair. It's not fair to customers to charge them so much for soggy sandwiches that have been sitting...
