Extortionist, unethical, and deliberately, obstinately bureaucratic. This chain has literally stolen in excess of $150 dollars from me. They reopened for business in November, and have stayed open (and charged me) for every subsequent month, through the middle of an infection spike that exceeds the rate before quarantine. I have verifiably not used any of their services since February 12th.
In order to cancel a subscription, you have to attend the club, in person. Phone, email, fax, remote cancelation is not possible. I have spent the last year caring for my family. I have been isolated for their safety. So let it be perfectly clear that this Planet Fitness' refusal to refund these months where I was physically unable to cancel the subscription is nothing short of extortion; attempting to cancel the subscription and not pay the PFMafia would have had real, quantifiable, and potentially lethal consequences.
Today I finally felt comfortable coming in to quickly cancel my subscription (my parents got the first vaccine!). Insults and injuries stacked up; refund of previous months was refused, then the form for cancellation (if you read the small print) doesn't extend to the current billing period. Then I discover that the subscription has an annual maintenance fee, which was charged despite my not having even had an account with them for 12 months of billing. then it turns out the manager wasn't even present (s/he only works on weekdays, during typical business hours. Sadly, so do I. There is no apparently no resident management on weekends). I had to heckle the receptionist for the PF central call center, which it seemed he was explicitly told not to share (he denied the existence of a central line for a good ten minutes of trying to get rid of me). The central line was also down; there is apparently no management at all on weekends.
I have never felt more wronged by a business. I cannot possibly dream to denounce this club and their practices enough. They steal, cheat, and obfuscate. They have extorted me for a service I have not used in over a year. As far as I'm concerned, their behavior is off the deep end of unethical - it is virtually evil. Given the options of losing $150 or losing my parents, I'd choose the former every single day. That I was even forced to make that choice is abhorrent.
PS: The business is rated "F" on the Better Business Bureau for failure to respond to at least 5 outstanding billing issues, among...
Read moreLike many others, this location has been defrauding me. In total they charged me 50% more than what my signed contract agrees to . Response from the club on other reviews citing fraud says to call the club . I did just that. (Tues Mar 28 5:53pm) I made the employee aware that the numbers on my contract did not match the numbers they were charging me. His response was to repeatedly tried to blame ME for not telling them sooner ( I just discovered this, actually) and refused to even try to rectify the situation . I
I told him I needed a refund for the discrepancy between what I was charged and what was on my contract and it was very simple . Clear cut. He refused . His actual reply was "awesome" when I informed him that I would be taking this to court . I recorded the conversation and will be filing in Kings County. If anyone else wishes to file a civil investigative demand against this location free to contact me. It might take me a couple days to file, but then my contact info will be on the docket.
Furthermore, at the time I signed up , the gym advertised being 24 hours. Days after I signed the agreement I was told by employees at this location that they would no longer be 24 hours and this "should have" been explained to me when I signed up .It was not. As it turns out they were already no longer 24 hours. This is a violation of the Lanham Act for deceptive guarantee / deceptive advertising .
I am a member of two other gyms in the city and only joined Planet Fitness for the tanning and late hours. The one time I visited this location, the employees had no idea how the tanning beds even worked, one told me they were broken and had not worked for weeks. This is on top of the gym not being open for the hours they hooked me into a contract with .
This place is horribly managed and the employees simply do not care, to the point that they will carry out a pattern of federal offenses against you , then...
Read moreThis location is OK , it's a no frill no clique place suitable for the most self disciplined gym goers that can maintain a routine through a mundane and monotonous environment . This is recently opened that replaced the Livingston location , which was probably too close to their other downtown bk location on duffield. Ironically, that's location was more convenient in my opnion despite the proximity to the other pf. Pros Clean Newer equipment Cardio theatres Open wide space More weight machines than previous location No cliques, groups, or snarky personal trainers Not as crowded as other locations
Cons Lighting is bright and unwelcoming Hours , given the closeness to other gyms there should be at least one 24/7 location like the one in Harlem and Williams burg. Staff appears to be detached , indifferent... one staff person reminded me "closing in 20 mins " on a Saturday .. which reminded me of "the get the f---k out, I got "sh_-t to do , but I'll make sure your account is debited weather u come or not " business model many of the cheap gyms have ... like really, 20 mins early !?, like most gym ppl don't know they close early on weekends , its common business practice; but I digress . Recommendation: Join as black card member , but I'm not sure using this location as a primary single location ... there nothing here really to motivate you to keep coming ... but that just . Corporate or the franchise operator should consider making this a 24/7 location , which would give it an edge over the Y, the blink, the nysc, and synergy gyms all within a 2 blocks...
