Honestly, this is hands down the classiest and most beautiful souvenir shop in all of New York. Of course, youâll find the usual T-shirts, postcards, stickers, figurines, and caps, but thereâs so much more. What really stands out are the stylish photos and prints of old New York, some of which are displayed right in the window. These are pictures of places that donât even exist in the city anymore. Stepping inside gives you the feeling that, just for a moment, you get to experience the New York of the past.
The gentleman who helped us yesterday was incredibly friendly and clearly passionate about the items he sells â a huge difference from other tourist shops where you often feel like the staff couldnât care less about whatâs on the shelves.
We also had a brief chat with the owner, and that was truly a wonderful experience.
If thereâs one small thing Iâd change, itâs that they also sell images, mugs, and other items featuring recent politicians. Without that, the place would be absolutely perfect. Still, I wouldnât take off any points for it â because overall, it was such a great experience to shop here again.
Warm greetings from two very happy customers...
Read moreMemories of New York" is a souvenir shop located in the Flatiron district of New York City. It offers a wide selection of souvenirs at reasonable prices, including t-shirts, hats, postcards, and other NYC memorabilia.
We had just recently spent the weekend in the Flat Iron district and wanted to bring home some souvenirs. I went into one store but I didn't find anything worthwhile. After that, I searched for nearby stores to find the ones with the best reviews.
Memories came up and so we headed that way. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted by the owner, Alper Tutus. We instantly got a great feeling about our choice. We walked around and there is soo much to choose from! We grabbed our souvenirs and as we were cashing out, Alper got to talking to us and he asked how we heard about the place and so I told him and he says astonishingly, "Here?!" I say, "Yeah!" Then he asked where we're from and we chat a little more and he tells us he's been there for 35 years!
Alper Tutus was very kind, friendly, and incredibly generous to us. We highly recommend...
Read moreI'm not a big fan of souvenir shops. I don't love this part of New York, particularly. However, sometimes visiting relatives and friends want some momentos. If that's the case, this is the best place to go.
That's totally due to the staff. The man behind the register is clearly the star, making residents and tourists alike feel welcome and at home. Whether it's a joke, or a free gift, or advice about the city, he knows how to make an interaction special, without feeling disingenuous.
The other staff is helpful as well, fetching t-shirts and answering questions.
All of the souvenirs feel like decent quality, and there are some gems if you look hard enough (I was impressed with the postcard books near the register - not every shop has Weegee's New York postcards).
All souvenir shops are not the same, the way that all bodegas are not the same. It's worth bringing the tour group here to shop. And, as you step out of the shop, the flatiron building is right there, giving your friends and family one more photo...
