I wouldn't recommend coming here for lunch like I did. It's very sparse during noon. The business seems to be more focused on a night time bar experience. It's called Asian fusion but it has a Japanese izakaya menu. In Japanese, "wagamama" means pressing on what you want to do without being considerate of others, according to Wiktionary Japan.
For the chicken katsu curry, the katsu was barely there, and for me that wasn't an issue because I don't eat that much meat. You could tell the sauce was kara-kuchi because it wasn't sweet but not because it was particularly spicy. $19. Both katsu curry and ramen had this unoffensive salty flavor to it. I'm struggling here to choose the most positive way I could put it.
Kids menu were $7 which was pretty good cost performance.
They had coffee on the menu which honestly I don't know why they even bothered to include. The charge is 8 dollars for a UCC branded canned coffee that is 2.30 on Amazon US, or $0.70 on Rakuten in Japan. Eataly is a block away, obviously miles better experience there. The coffee is also not bad.
The restroom experience on the second floor was a low light due to the Subway elevator-esque smell. To their credit, they had the restroom doors open with the trash cans to aerate during noon when the second floor had no customers. Perhaps the vent isn't functioning well. The bigger bathroom has a plumbing mistake where both the left and right water pipes are providing hot water to the sink, giving you the option of hot water or hot water.
Beware the tipping percentage on their payment system. If you select for example 18% tip on their payment system, it's actually 18% of the subtotal plus 18% on the sales tax as well, so 18% is actually the option for 19.5%, and the 20% option is actually 21.8%. Mokbar is the other restaurant I know that does this in Manhattan. If you're not used to this, it is a hidden fee that takes advantage of...
Read moreI have been going to Wagamama since 2011 when I visited London and I was so excited when you opened locations in the US. I haven’t had a bad experience there, until last night. My husband and I ordered our food, and I went to the bathroom. The bathroom was HORRIBLE. There were piles of trash under the toilet, no toilet paper, and trash (including a sanitary napkin) on the ground. I don’t have a weak stomach, but honestly, I lost my appetite because it was so nasty. When I got back to the table, I sat to eat my dish (honey chicken), but I couldn’t because I thought “if the bathroom is that bad, how bad is the kitchen”. I told the waitress that I didn’t like my meal, but I didn’t tell her why because I didn’t want to ruin the rare night out that we have. She came over within 5 minutes with a menu to ask if I wanted something else – and I didn’t respond right away so she said she would “be right back”. She never came back. I could see her from where I was sitting with the glow from her cell phone on her face. I went to use the bathroom again because I had something in my eye, and it was still in the same condition about 30 minutes later. When I came back, she STILL had not been back to the table. I saw her still with the cell phone glow on her face and now she was twirling / playing with her hair in the middle of the dining room! It was so unsanitary / unprofessional / and just gross. She is handling food and she is touching her hair – like twirling it around her fingers! Anyway, so I asked my husband to get up and ask for the check because we had given up hope she was ever coming back. Lastly, I only got my credit card receipt, I didn’t get a copy of the Wagamama with the breakdown and her name. I wrote to Wagamama customer service, but I haven’t...
Read moreI have been wanting to go to this place for the longest time, as I have seen this chain in Europe and well one of my friends kept raving about it.
Upon coming here, the hostess took our temperature and have us fill out a Covid contact tracing form, and was seating in the booth area. We ordered the Korean Chicken wings (most flavorful of all the dishes), fried duck gyoza, grilled duck ramen, chicken katsu curry, short rib beef ramen, and the chicken ramen.
What I didn't expect from coming here was that everything tasted "healthy." I was expecting a more flavorful, umami experience. The fried gyoza was alright, and the duck ramen was not as rich as I had wanted. The katsu curry, I personally found a little disappointing because it reminded me of creamy peanut butter and not strong in the curry flavor at all. The chicken was fairly dry and the rice was a little too soft for my liking.
The main highlight for me, or at least the one I really liked was the Korean chicken wings which was sweet, salty and spicy, and really rich in the sauce. If I were to come back, I would definitely just get that and a side of rice.
Highly recommend the "Positive Juice" which contains pineapple, lime, spinach, cucumber and apple (cuz who doesn't want some positivity in their lives?) .It was refreshingly delicious (and didn't taste like it had those added sugars).
Though the service was great and the staff was really friendly, the food wasn't the greatest. It is definitely one of those food places where you would get during your lunch break, so you don't go back to sleep when you get back to work.
Gave 3 stars for the wings, drink as well as service and atmosphere, but the food was not as satisfying as...
