I would rate this a 3.5 if I had the option. Context: I see a lot of magic shows and have been to Magic Castle in LA, an idea that Speakeasy Magick is seeking to emulate.
Pros: The magicians are stellar, each very good at their craft and excellent performers. The magic was all very enjoyable, though if you’ve been to many magic shows you’ll likely see familiar tricks. The speakeasy part was very cool. I would give the hidden entrance 5 stars, though it’s just a few minutes of the experience. From an entertainment standpoint I give it 4 stars. The MCs were not my favorite but they were fine. 5 stars for the live music.
Cons: If you buy a ticket for the late show, it starts at 10:45 (not 10), and if the earlier show runs late yours might start up to an hour later. Ours started around 11:15-11:30 and ended around 1. Bc of the speakeasy part you can’t all go in at the same time; since they don’t have an actual check-in or take names, you spend a lot of time waiting and uncertain - just know everyone else at the bar is also going to the show and they won’t likely start on time. Logistically, the room setup isn’t great; there are definitely better and worse tables and better and worse seats. We couldn’t always see everything on the main stage, and even at our table it was very difficult to hear (the table is kind of a long jellybean shape so being across from the magician are the best seats and the ends have trouble hearing, but you don’t get any choice in your seating). I believe you have to purchase a whole table/higher levels to get the tables closer to the stage.
Overall I think it’s a unique and fun experience, especially with friends and lovers of magic. I think it’s a bit expensive unless you luck out with a really excellent seat or maybe if you haven’t seen many other magic shows - in which case this may be a good way to “sample” a lot of magic in one evening. At this price point I would rather go see a single magician in a more intimate setting where I can actually see and hear...
Read moreHad an amazing time here! The show was amazing and every magician is brilliant and the best. Had absolutely a great time.
There was one thing that made me a bit upset but still deserves five star regardless. Initially I got seated right in the middle in front of the magician seat. After the show started, the waiter came and ask if I can be moved to the side so that the ppl just arrived can seat next to their fam. It was very awkward for me to say no considering I was sitting right next to a big family. I was moved to the corner. It was def a different experience comparing to the person sitting at my original seat, which was picked to participate in every trick. The girl next to me was extremely nice and asked to exchange with me in the middle of the show so I can be closer to the table. Otherwise it’d be much worse.
Although the show still blew my mind and it def it’s a five star experience. I think five star was very fair cuz I could be assigned to the corner to start with. But I genuinely don’t like be asked to seat in the corner for ppl who came late and wanted to rearrange the seat, especially after the show already started and I was all...
Read moreBeware of tips scam! I attended this show twice, the last time on August 2nd, 2024, with my husband. While the event itself was enjoyable, the memory has been completely ruined by the company’s unprofessional and unethical practices.
We paid for two drinks at the event and left a tip. However, a month later, I noticed an unauthorized charge on my credit card for a tip way higher than the one I signed for (x5 times more). I immediately contacted the company multiple times to resolve the issue, but after an initial response, they completely ignored me. It's been MONTHS now, and despite my best efforts to reach out, I’ve received no further communication or resolution from them.
They took money from me without my consent and completely ruined the memory of this show. I do not recommend to visit this show, as their lack of accountability...
