Men’s Haircuts by Sergio Slavnov — Local services in New York

I have been having haircuts with Sergei Slavnov (he goes by either Sergei or Sergio) since August 2016. I found him because he was in the neighborhood of where I was living at the time and he had the highest yelp reviews in the area, so I thought of checking it out.

I have somewhat messy, curly hair and I have been dissatisfied by every single haircut I have ever gotten, so much so that I used to hate the haircut experience. It is only after I found Sergei that I discovered how awesome my hair could be made to look. When I was getting married in December 2016, the only hair stylist I could trust for styling my hair before my wedding was Sergei.

He used to be the hair stylist for celebrities such as Elton John and Siegfried & Roy. It is very clear that he is extremely talented and passionate about his work, but he also looks at his work as a form of art and that says something about his dedication and his honesty.

He works in his private studio and you will often find there his little dog Lola (who is adorable, and this is coming from someone who really doesn't like pets much). Sergei's son George has set up together a playlist of music videos for you to watch while Sergei works on your hair. It is a very refreshing atmosphere.

Add to all this the fact that Sergei actually cares about his clients in a sincere way. He has a laid back conversation style and is a very genuine individual. Once, my wife accompanied me to Sergei's and played with Lola while Sergei worked on my hair. She too enjoyed the conversation with Sergei immensely.

A hair stylist as hardworking, sincere, talented and caring as Sergei is a gem that is not easy to find. I am very grateful to him and while I have now moved to a different part of the city, I will always go to him for my hair if he is in town. This is usually not a problem because if Sergei is planning to make a trip, he lets all his clients know his travel dates in advance, so they can schedule something before his travel, if it is urgent.

So how did I find Sergio? Like many other men, I thought the pandemic was the perfect opportunity to grow out my hair. 2.5 years later, I found myself ready for a new look, but I was afraid to go to a typical barber! Being unsure if I'll ever grow my hair this long again, I wanted to see a professional. Enter Sergio. My first search for men's hairstylists near me suggested him, and he seemed like a great fit: not only does he specialize in men's hair, but long men's hair in particular! Between his reviews and social media presence I thought to myself, hey, why not give it a shot? I wanted to get this big haircut done right. And I was not disappointed! In fact, I came in for a haircut and left as a hair model (with a great haircut)! Sergio was extremely kind and welcoming; honestly having only been to barber shops in the past I was quite shocked and confused, but also very lucky to have gone to Sergio! He really loved my hair (enough to have me model for a photoshoot and video)! Sergio also taught me how to take better care of my hair. I am using his Avenue Man products and am surprised at how well they work, especially since my hair is quite thick and heavy, so most products are not strong enough. My hair is still relatively long on the top even after my big hair cut (10 inches), so I use the volume lift mousse to keep my hair out of my face. Sergio is an expert at his craft. I've been searching for a quality hair stylist since my prior barber moved nearly two years ago. I am so grateful to have found Sergio. His studio space is comfortable and private. Upon entering he made me feel welcomed and at ease. I expressed indecisiveness and ambivalence about the eventual hairstyle I would like; he helped me sort through photos of men with similar facial structure and hair texture to choose a photo as a goal. Once we decided on style, Sergio spent a full hour perfecting the shape of my hair so that it will grow into the desired style. He offered me several complementary products to try in my hair as I wear it shorter. He also offered care and product advice about hair regrowth, as I am starting to thin a little bit. I left feeling confident about my appearance and confident that I can trust Sergio with my future hair styling. His service is well worth his fees, and when considering the necessary frequency of service, it's similarly priced as getting your haircut every 2-4 weeks at a high quality barber.
