If you have other options for medical care, do NOT go to NYU medical associates in Greenpoint!! I was so surprised at the utter disorganization and chaos of this office, given the fact that I had a very positive experience with NYU’s OBGYN practice in Manhattan. It was so packed and noisy it felt like being in the ER.
I arrived 15 minutes early for my appointment and checked in using the computers. I was about to sit down when one of the receptionists asked if I had an appointment today (not sure why I would be there if I didn’t…). I said yes and he then started entering information on an iPad while I stood there confused. Eventually I was told to walk to a different waiting area through the main door (the lobby has its own waiting area). I saw a nurse who was nice enough and took my vitals. I sat down a few minutes before my 11am appointment and was told I’d be the first called for this doctor. At 11:37 I got up to speak with a receptionist, who told me my doctor wasn’t here and she had no idea where this doctor was. She also couldn’t locate her manager and said the doctor had not called about being late. I was fuming at the extremely poor communication—also I had taken off of work for this appointment. Finally the receptionist called the doctor who said was walking over and would arrive in 5 minutes. Fifteen minutes later she called me in.
While she apologized and explained her lateness was because of an accident in the Lincoln tunnel, it did little to assuage my irritation. She then proceeded to ask a ton of questions without inquiring as to my own concerns and reason for making the appointment. It felt like she was more concerned about checking boxes in the chart, and she continuously interrupted me. At one point I told mentioned my hormonal disorder, which she said wasn’t in the chart. I know for a fact it was because it came up in my pre-check in questions on the NYU app. When I mentioned one of my concerns, she just said “I have no idea what that could be.” No reassurance, nothing. Finally she suggested bloodwork for a physical and asked what time I had last eaten—8:30am. She then asked if I could come back at 3pm (it was around noon), and I felt my anger really spike, as I had not been told to fast in advance of the appointment. I expressed my frustration with having already waited an hour to see her. She became very defensive and told me that I should look up the traffic myself. She continued to cut me off when I spoke, expressing my disappointment that my concerns wouldn’t be addressed today. She curtly agreed that I would get my bloodwork done today, and I left her office to then sign up to get labs done. I was sent back to the lobby waiting area with no idea how long I’d be waiting.
About 20 minutes passed by when I heard someone behind the main door calling my name, but how could I possibly get to that person when she was on the other side of the door? Thankfully someone opened the door so I could greet her. The bloodwork part was fine…but wow, Ewa Weirzba, the doctor, was extremely rude, and the office is completely disorganized with poor communication amongst staff and with...
Read moreI must say, I was highly skeptical about scheduling with the doctor here for a first time with their online reviews. With that said, I'm so glad I did. Sad to see the people who had such negative experiences when I was welcomed, into a very busy clinical environment, with a smile and efficient new patient sign in. (Not hard to tell when someone is smiling under a mask) Not even 6 or 7 minutes after I sit down I'm called in by the nurses, I feel bad for not paying more attention to their names as they were phenomenal. Listened, ACTIVELY, to everything I was saying and describing with compassionate and knowledgeable responses to everything. Something I definitely wasn't used to as in my experience, I've spoken and been entirely disregarded, such as in the ER I went to the night before and many clinics prior where I walked out due to atrocious patient care and service. Instantly when the nurses took their info the doctor was ready to see me. Did I get lucky today? I don't know, but what I will say is everything was speedy and efficient, yet never felt rushed for even a moment. Dr. Feinbaum was direct and understanding. Listening to my symptoms and history and questioning/responding appropriately while detailing everything he wants to do next to further understand me, his now happy new patient. Never did it feel disregarded or disrespected. I was spoken to with the respect I wish the world itself could portay everywhere I went. Like I said, this place was busy, very busy, but I was watching patients and services flow like water. Was able to get my EKG and X-ray within like 10 mines of eachother, I'd never experienced such a speedy in and out time. All while not feeling rushed? Crazy! The EKG nurse was so sweet, intelligent and professional, I felt like these people have been taking care of me for years. The X-ray tech was efficient and knowledgeable with an extremely kind demeanor. Ultimately you can see everyone is busy and working, but they went above and beyond to make sure that the patient, me, didn't feel like I was a burden, or being rushed in and out. Again I feel horrible for not getting everyones name to shout out how great their services were in my opinion. Finally, the receptionist who helped me make my schedule and set up the same day labs I did, I think her name was Karolina, so sorry if I messed that up! So helpful, so kind, such a sweet demeanor that could leave you wanting to converse for longer than you need to. She set me up quickly with appts and explained everything to me in a way where there were no questions left needing to be asked. Honestly, all the staff I interacted with left me with the same feeling, that I am looking forward to further continuing seeing them for my medical needs. I have to say thank you again to everyone who assisted me at...
Read moreI've been attending this clinic for a few years now. Here are my 2 cents: Just because a doctor is very popular, and it's hard to get an appointment with them, doesn't mean they are good doctors. Please dig deep and check out every doctor, there are some hidden gems here. Most of the popular ones aren't very good, don't actually check you, and are popular because elderly patients see them constantly for the same meds. I recommend Dr. Slobodyanyuk. I don't like calling out people but stay away from Dr. Wierzba and Dr. Warchol. They literally won't give you anything or check you. This clinic provides care in many different specialties making it convenient. From my experience, the gastroenterologist and cardiologist are great! Do your research on the doctors first! Make late appointments. Many older patients come here constantly and, therefore, have early appointments. You can easily wait for hours due to this. After 4-5pm, you'll be seen a lot faster - sign up for the wait list if you want an earlier appointment! The staff usually speaks Polish to each other. Not a big deal to me, but if this bothers you, you probably shouldn't come here. They are still pretty inclusive and I never felt discriminated against for speaking Spanish or not knowing Polish. A FEW of the nurses speak in nasty and condescending tones. They have told me that I can't be experiencing my symptoms because apparently they themselves are doctors. Be warned! Pay up first! If you don't pay, you'll get a ridiculous amount of bills. Better to pay upfront before being seen and having that receipt!! Overall, at one point, I hated this place, then loved it after finding wonderful doctors and knowing when to make appointments. Hope you...
