It was a great place to play when permit was needed, and someone forces the rules on court, but there has been more and more tennis coaches taking over one or two courts forever, and refused to leave. I went there this morning, and ask one coach for the court, but he started cursing, bullying, threaten me, and lying that he has a permit, which this court does not need one. He even try to bump head with me, and physically hit me.
If you want to have a nice time playing tennis, pay some money for a not free court, as free courts are always full of liers and bullies...
Read moreI would happily pay $10 each time - it didn't need to be free. Roosevelt Island itself is beautiful and hence these courts end up the most beautiful location I've played tennis in. Most players who come here are relatively serious about the sport which is lovely to see. Honestly, the organizers can generate a lot of revenue from these courts because such serious players would probably easily agree to pay at least $5-$10 each person.
I fear that the lack of paywall will make access harder for those who really cherish this place...
