Precision Guitar Repair — Local services in New York

I've been going to Tony for almost three years now. This year alone I brought him a combination of six stringed instruments- basses, guitars, acoustics, electrics - some of these I had no hope for, some of these I had setup at other places that were held in high regard only to be let down, some of them had electrical issues, looked like hell, extremely old, some fancier, some lower end, some in such bad shape I was a bit ashamed to bring it in - and each time I get a guitar back from Tony it feels as exciting as the first day I got the instrument. They have always sounded, looked, and felt their best when I get them back from Tony and he is always interested to know what my aim for feel and preference is and brings it back to life in the best shape it's ever been in. He also takes care of things I would never think of let alone can even image being corrected. For instance, an acoustic Washburn six string in black I've had for well over twenty years I just got back from T - I never once mentioned the devastating and long white scratch on the front of the body assuming it would not be able to be corrected - I was once again wrong and pleasantly surprised when Tony handed it back to me and it was buffed out and made to look brand new. Do yourself a favor, if you have an axe that needs a repair/rebirth/a boost - even if you're just curious if your guitar could possibly be improved and brought to better shape even when it is already in top form - pop by Precision and say hi to Tony - he'll make it rock harder than it...

I do not recommend this place at all. I brought my guitar in last Friday and first off, it took the guy 5 days to respond to me and only because I messaged him. I cannot imagine how long it would’ve taken if I didn’t reach out to me….. then he said he couldn’t do anything about fixing my guitar and didn’t even bother to try to fix one thing, instead just gave up. Then when I came to pick up my guitar I asked what was wrong with it and the person who gave me the guitar back gave me attitude and just complained about my guitar being cheap and there was nothing they can do about it. $50 for a “diagnostic” only to get it back a week later with no solution or anything. I've been going to Precision before it even had a name--when it was Anthony and the team in the back of a prior iteration of Main Drag--for over a decade and they are truly miracle workers. I have brought them more annoying projects than I can remember and they've always surpassed my expectations with their care and attention to detail. I have also come to them in some pretty dire situations before leaving for tour and I have a particularly fond memory of grabbing an instrument from them and going directly to JFK. I didn't think twice about not having checked it out before getting on the flight. I trust them with my livelihood and don't know what I'd do...
