My experience at Salonhqz Inc with Steve Kong was really great. Earlier this year, I decided to get a perm for the first time and, safe to say, I had a bad experience. Because of this, I wasn't very hopeful when trying to find the right place and person for my second perm.

At Salonhqz Inc, Steve and his staff were welcoming and accommodating from the get-go. Throughout the entire process, Steve kept me engaged by explaining to me what he was doing and why he was doing it during each step of the perm process. He also made sure to ask me for my opinion and if I had any questions/concerns during each step as well. In the end, my perm turned out to be much better than I could have hoped for; I left the salon incredibly satisfied with Steve and his work. I would 11/10 recommend this place to everyone, especially guys who are looking to get a perm for the first time and are on the fence, have difficulty finding a good hairstylist, and/or simply looking to change up their hairstyle. Rest assured that you will be in good hands with Steve and his staff!

It’s been a few days since my digital perm and I’m so in love with the transformation of my hair. Everything took a little less than 4 hours and the whole time, I felt I was being taken care of. The staff were all so warm, courteous, and professional. Steve was exceptional in making sure my hair was just how I wanted it. He gave great insight into the perm process and how to take care of my hair afterwards. It’s costly but it’s very much worth it for me as my previous digital perm lasted around 9 months. I highly recommend this salon and I’m for sure coming back!

Update after 4 months: I love how low maintenance my hair has been outside of washing my hair twice a week and using JVN air dry cream. The curls aren’t as pronounced on one side but it still looks beautiful to me. The most recent photo is my hair mostly dried after showering. I’m interested in experimenting with braiding my hair at night after using the hair cream because it seemed like it accentuated the waves last time I tried it! Thanks...

Steve has been doing my hair since I moved to NYC three years ago and my hair has turned out fantastic every time. This is the most recent balayage and cut that Steve did for me. He is clearly a coloring expert and knows what he’s talking about. Last year when I went blonde, my hair never turned brassy (as it did before when I went to other stylists). This year, I wanted to do something a little more subtle and a month later, my hair still looks great (I get oily so I need to wash my hair every other day). He’s very detailed and really takes his time!

Steve is also very educational and has taught me a lot about how to tone (even down to what shades to purchase) and how to style my hair.
