Sawada Coffee remains a more ulterior establishment tucked away in some corner, but without that, it actually guarantees an experience in the world of coffee not quite the same as any other casual minimalist coffee shops. It is intimate and low-key with a garage punk-like atmosphere inside that feels like a fresh breath of air. The baristas are well-informed and affable, still hustling to serve up delightful drinks with a smile. They serve intriguing concoctions on their menu, like the military latte-a delectable combination of matcha and espresso nowhere else to be found. Another standout is the black camo latte, with hojicha, espresso, and steamed oat milk combined in a heavenly mixture. Both drinks impress with their latte art, even in take-away cups, and are full of flavor. It also adds neatness to the serving in a shot glass for the serving of the espresso shot. Seating is ample and cozy; a perfect setting to enjoy a cup of coffee while snacking on their delicious cookies. For anyone around the area, this is definitely a place to be if you want to taste an excellent cup of coffee with a...
Read moreVery nice and cozy spot. Small area to stay and enjoy drink. Shares a back space with a warm rustic restaurant. A bit confusing to locate the entrance as it is the same as the restaurant. I had no issue with the staff, I thought they were friendly. Sadly the $7 drink for served in a paper cup with zero design attempt tasted pretty bland and bad and grainy; it was about as exciting as something from the corner deli. It was ranked as one of the worse drink I tried. I am very confused what all the rave was about. I guess I came with high expectations; I expected NY standard. Sad, I really wanted to like and support small local coffee houses but I think I will pass this next time. On a good note, it has a small nook to sit and rest your legs but it's not very quiet and quite dark (goes with the vibe tbf) for reading or relaxing but will be fine for catching up provided it's not full house. Tables are tightly next to...
Read moreIt's refreshing to have a coffee experience that serves dark-roasted coffee without a lingering burn flavor. The barista was very kind yet hustled, something I've grown to appreciate the more I drink coffee. The espresso shot was served in a shot glass, which was pretty neat. The inside of Ah Cheval was nicely dimmed and had some pretty clubby music for a Sunday.
The seating for the cafe part of the space was ample and cozy, and the sort of garage punk vibe is such a breath of fresh air from a lot of cafes that seem to pursue modern minimalist designs that remind me of Urban Outfitters meets Scandinavian design. Their highly decorated Victoria Arduino Black Eagle is just awesome, like some kind of hot rod from an apocalyptic future.
All in all, worth a visit and a sit-down; go visit and support a...
