My review for Salsa In Queens wonāt do justice with how strongly I feel about being a student in this establishment. I started taking salsa lessons when I got injured and I thought now would be a good time. When I first started, I was overwhelmed, how on earth am I going to dance like that?! I asked Franco (owner and teacher of Salsa in Queens) that question and he told me it will take time but all it takes is the courage to show up [mic drop]. Itās been 3 months and I have improved so much all due to the patient guidance and determination of all the instructors. I have taken bachata with Nelson and beginner levels with Franco and Steve. I appreciate how uniquely different they are because each has imparted their own understanding and interpretation of a move that will finally click for me. What makes this studio exceptional is all the instructors are alike in that they are caring, attentive, and strive for the same goal and that is to get you dancing. They have all said to me on different occasions not to be overwhelmed by their skill, experience, and knowledge because they too have been in the same position of a newbie, they go āIāve been where youāve been.ā Being a student of Salsa in Queens has enriched my life because I am part of a community that is full of support...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI found out about this studio as I was searching to get back into dance and had recently moved to this neighborhood, Astoria. The Salsa In Queens (SIQ) dance studio has stolen my heart!
The studio is located on Steinway Street; across the street from the M/R train station that is only 10 mins away from Manhattan. The place is located inside the āSteinway Plazaā building and has a welcoming atmosphere as well as a strong sense of community.
SIQ hosts a monthly Latin Social Party every last Friday of the month and dedicates its proceeds towards different philanthropic initiatives that directly affect/relate to their student base. For the last three months, they have been raising money for Puerto Rico and hurricane relief efforts.
If one is looking to start Latin dancing, especially Salsa and Bachata dance, SIQ has the best 6-week cycle program that starts from the very basic steps and progressively continues. Students often take Level 1, followed by Level 2, and then proceed to Advanced Beginner. If one wants to check a class out before committing, your first one is complimentary.. just ask when you walk in! Open Level classes for both styles of dance are offered, BUT WARNING: YOU WILL TRULY ENJOY SIQ CLASSES/STAFF AND FOR...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIāve been going to Salsa in Queens since June, and this is HANDS DOWN the best salsa studio Iāve been to!
Hereās why:
They actually take the time to teach all the steps and moves. Surprisingly, thatās not very commonāIāve been to places where everything feels rushed just to fit into the one-hour time slot.
The instructors are epic. They make it fun and engaging, and if you fall behind, just raise your hand and youāll hear a āI got you!ā as they quickly come over to show you the move up close. Iāve personally taken a ton of classes with Tyrone and heās so so good.
They always leave enough time at the end to practice the full combo to at least two songs.
At the end of class, they perform the combo slowly with the 1-2-3, 5-6-7 counts from two different angles, and then demonstrate with music. Everyone records and then itās super easy to play it back.
They offer a variety of classes, including cycles, partner work, styling,...
