I was looking for a place to have brunch. My usual spot was closed for renovations even though it did not state that on yelp. I searched the area I found DK was not too far away. When I arrived I was non too pleased to see that it was a bar, I don't know why that bothered me but it did, don't get me wrong I do drink. I went in any way and to my surprise it was lovely inside! The place was clean and just had a great chill vibe. There was music playing in the background, vintage Rock, R&B & Soul music very low so it won't interfere with anyone having a conversation. The wait staff was great, the brunch menu had a very extensive list. I loved the cloth napkins. I ordered the chicken and waffles, now it was not busy at all, maybe 5 patrons already there, so my order did take longer than I thought it should take. When my food arrived it looked amazing! The main problem was the lack of any seasoning on the crispy chicken, which, was not crispy. In terms of texture, everything felt the same, the waffle was pillowy soft on the inside with a little crunch on the outside, the chicken however was bland, bland, bland. I could see something that looked like seasoning on the chicken maybe black pepper, but no salt, I should have asked for table salt. Would I go back there again for brunch, yes. I would give them another try, I just won't order the chicken...
Read moreAfter a frustrating experience with a very simple bar order of 7 and 7,. 7up and Seagrams 7, my wife got a nice whiskey and Sprite. It was smooth but 7 is so much better. I asked for a blended Margarita that threw the waitress and bartender for a loop. I should have asked for a frozen Margarita , it turns out. No salt offered and it wasn't very good. On the other hand, the grilled salmon and NY Steak that was more like a Bone-in Ribeye that was cooked to perfection! Both were very generous portions of meat and potatoes. Just wish we could have been given more of the yummy carrots. Had the chocolate lava cake with ice cream. Very tasty but again, all we got was a tiny Tablespoon's worth of ice cream. For $14 you would think a bit more ice cream should have been provided. All in all they turned a questionable start into a nice experience. Price was on the steep side. $13 for a well drink and eh Margarita for Happy Hour? Wow! Wonder what the price would be at normal time? With tip we spent $144 for the two of us. If I go back I would probably stick with a burger and ice tea but quality of the food was the shining star and both staff...
Read moreDK Public, a local hangout, has been open for a few months, since around Oct. Formerly in this location was another well-known bar, Dutch Kills Centraal, which closed during the middle of the pandemic. The new owners made some cosmetic changes in the interior, but the space basically looks the same. Inside is a gorgeous, kind of old school but upscale vibe. You’ll find the original mosaic tile floors, pendant light fixtures, hand painted murals and lots of wood furniture. The indoor space is large, and they also have some outdoor seating.
As for the menu, it’s limited right now. They have some lunch offerings and pastries throughout the day. When I visited last week, the owner told me they just got their liquor license and hope to be offering dinner menu soon. After chatting with him, I ended up just getting a cup of Americano and a muffin. The coffee was great; strong and dark. Not sure if they bake the muffin in-house but it sure hit the spot. It was nice and moist and filling. I’ll have to plan another visit to try out their food.
This under-radar hangout is ideal for those looking for a nice quiet place to work, grab drinks and...
