I was pretty disappointed with this place. The breakfast photos are positively stupendous and I decided to go all out by getting the eggs with green sauce and ordered some steak on top bc the steak on the chilaquiles photos looked awesome (I just preferred beans over crispy tortilla).
The eggs and rice/beans were awesome but the steak was disappointingly dry and overcooked. It's decent Mexican food (I'm acknowledging that I have to consider this is NY and not south Texas), but just not quite as good as it could be if they focused a bit more on details.
Also I would say the ventilation leaves much to be desired. I was the only one in the restaurant and ordered only one dish (plus matcha which was unexpected but tasty). I felt like it took forever and I smelled worse than I did after Korean BBQ downtown. So plan to shower and do laundry after coming here. Sadly I had no such option with my coat since I was only in town for a few days. A few days where I smelled like Mexican food the whole time. Gross.
OJ was also so bad I tossed most of it on...
Read moreCafe Xochimilco is an authentic Mexican restaurant serving classic Mexican dishes. I have been here twice, both times for breakfast. First, I ordered the chilaquiles with chorizo and the octopus tostadas. Both dishes were excellent. The chilaquiles were served with a green tomatillo sauce that was not too spicy. Served with eggs (I ordered them scrambled) and avocado, the dish was just like Mexican mom used to make them. The octopus tostadas were topped with jicama and onions. Those tostadas were delicious and filling. Second, I had the torta de chilaquiles (yes, I love chilaquiles) which is very popular in Mexico City. The torta is a sandwich like dish stuffed with chilaquiles, eggs, and avocado. Delicious is too weak a word to describe this very filling plate. My wife had the birria tacos. She said it has been a long time since she tried such delicious tacos. Try the cafe de olla if you like coffee and cinnamon. Great place to eat. I will return next...

If you're in Long Island City, New York and craving authentic Mexican food, look no further than Café Xochimilco! As a Los Angeles native, I was skeptical about finding good Mexican cuisine in the city, but this place exceeded my expectations.
I ordered the Azteca Desayuno, which was packed with flavor and authenticity. But I got full with the eggs and beans so didn't even touch the rice.
To complement our meal, I enjoyed the classic café de olla, which was perfectly brewed and added a cozy touch to our morning.
Our server, Antonia, was incredibly sweet and attentive, making our visit even more enjoyable. Despite the café getting busy on a Tuesday morning, our food arrived quickly, showcasing their efficient service.
Café Xochimilco is a must-visit for anyone looking for delicious Mexican breakfast dishes in NYC. We'll definitely be back for more before...
