I went here last night for my first visit. I really hate to write this review and I really wanted to love this place. It is hard finding places that manage natural hair and can do silk presses. I have not had a relaxer in 20 years and I am mixed race ( lndian and caribbean with long hair past mid back level) Ebony gets a 5 as far as her hair knowledge and doing my hair. I like how it was blow dried, detangled and the products she used and my steam treatment. However, She made me very uncomfortable during this appointment. We had a discussion and she asked me what my hair goals are. I said i wanted it longer. She said that I needed a trim and i could refuse once or twice but then after that I needed to find a new hair salon if i refused. I never met this person before 10 mins before that and i typically only trim my hair twice a year. I then said I would be a consistent client and come every two weeks so are you going to tell me every other hair appointment every four weeks to get my hair trimmed?? My hair has been down to my butt before without trimming it that much. I know how to grow my hair obviously. You can’t grow your hair as long as mine is trimming it that often. I trim my hair every 6 mths to a year and thats what i’m comfortable with. So after my hair was blow dried she did trim my hair. I had a really nice V shape in the back of my hair where the middle part was very long and she cut that off and cut my hair straight across in the back and that’s not what I wanted. I think threatening a client that if you don’t want your hair trimmed and to find another salon is excessive and pretty aggressive. I doubt she or some of her clients have ever had hair as long as mine, and to tell me that I need to do all of these things that I’ve never done in order for me to have long hair, which I have had my whole adult life in a bit much. I obviously know how to grow it. I get that the ends get split but every other hair appt that i need a trim is not what I want. I also explained to her in detail how I do not want short hair and I don’t like short hair. I do not want half my hair chopped off and initially, she was going to cut off more and thank God I stopped her that she only cut a little bit. I was ready to be a lifelong client and come every two weeks but I only want to trim when I actually need one and when I feel comfortable to cut my hair. To tell a new client that they have to cut their hair when she says to cut it or else I have to find a new salon was a bit much for me. After my hair was washed she said that I had no straggly ends, and my hair appeared healthy with minimal shedding. So was not sure why she thought i needed so much cut. So now after the trim, Ebony asked me if I want to stop the appointment or continue. Obviously I don’t want walk out without my hair being flat ironed at this point after she clearly saw that I was not happy and had anxiety about my hair being cut. I was uncomfortable with this question. I think my hair turned out great besides the trim and I would love to go back to her for my hair care but without being...
Read moreEverything but the PRESS! So I know I am not the only natural who wears textured styles 99.9% of the time but doesnt always want to wash their own hair, or cant do treatments at home. I also know I am not the only one who cannot trim! Thats where Ebony and TP come in. I started coming just because I was never trimming my hair, and it was breaking constantly. I have been coming to Ebony for washes, treatments, trims and blow-dries and let me tell you that my HAIR IS THRIVING!!! I have left with, a wild, raw blow (on purpose) or two braids that I literally rocked for 9 days. Its the perfect base for the stretched styles because your hair is perfectly washed, conditioned and blowed out with protection. I am not doing any blowing drying at home. Her tips, and strategies are what caused me to make two major changes to my wack hair care routine and again MY HAIR IS THRIVING. I completely forgot I was trying to grow it longer because I have fallen in love with my strands again and really have just been enjoying its health. I cannot be humble --my curls are POPPING. I am trying new styles and coming for all the You Tubers :) Wash day is nice and relaxing for me and its literally because of TP. On top of that all she also customer oriented, its not a version of hunger games to get an appointment, she is ALWAYS on time, her shop is meticulous, THE PRICE IS RIGHT, and no one is selling you socks and pepper shrimp. Since its just you, there isn't anyone looking all in your face and her music is popping. Ebony also is amazing at reading cues: chatty when her customers are wanting chat and in her hair zone when they aren't. Its as close to a perfect experience as I am going to get. I have told all of the naturals who struggle with...
Read moreFinding a hair stylist in the city was such a major challenge for me! My hair is really thick so I’ve had people over-process it, cut it when all I needed was a trim and up charge me for services I didn’t request. Not to mention, the countless hours wasted in a packed salon. Believe it or not, I used to commute two hours to Philly to a trusted hair stylist to avoid all of that drama in the city; but obviously - that wasn’t sustainable.
I met Ebony through a referral from a close friend. Her hair always looked fabulous and she raved about the changes she’s seen in her hair since working with her.
Reluctantly, I booked using her website and was PLEASANTLY surprised. First of all, she had the best playlist EVER which immediately set the tone for a great appointment. Secondly, when I walked in to #TexturedPress I was surprised to only see one chair. One appointment per time slot. All attention on me. In and out. That wasn’t something I was used to but was a much welcome change.
Ebony is a true master of her craft and makes education a major part of your appointment. She asked a lot of questions about my routine and how I took care of my hair. She discussed each and every product she used from shampoos to serums and explained why it would be good for my healthy hair needs. She even asked about challenges with my hair and gave me practical solutions for maintenance in between visits.
I really appreciate her personal touch. She maintains an environment that is welcoming with her warm and kind spirit. Ebony really cares about the health of your hair and I have noticed a major difference in just a few short months. I can’t wait to see continued results.
