They cut off a lot of my hair. I told the hair stylist specifically what I wanted. I showed him a picture and told him I was growing out my hair so it could be almost shoulder length and therefore I just wanted to trim the ends so it would grow out faster. He nodded and said that he understood, and repeated to me "only the ends no dramatic change", keep it the same just shorten the ends so it grows faster. He cut off almost two or three inches of my hair. It took me 5 months to get my hair to the length it was and now I'm at square one again and hoping I can grow it out as fast as possible. He also cut off my hair while it was dry which Ive never have had done and he didn't wash it prior cutting. He also used thinning scissors which thinned out my already thin hair quite a lot, making my hair look way more flat, and he almost used a trimmer on my head which would've shorten my hair even more and was clearly not something I asked for, at that point I told him to not use the trimmers please. They were kind enough to give me a refund and were attentive with customer service which I appreciate. I feel like I would do 2 and a half stars because the place is quite beautiful an it seems like it should be very professional, but sadly my experience was not...
Read moreMy barbershop at 68 Thompson Street in SoHo, NYC means business. This is no ordinary establishment; It is an outstanding experience even before you enter the shop. Their window alone is proof that this Tokyo/New York based business has given it all they’ve got to set the ambiance and bring their Tokyo aesthetic and expertise to NYC residents. From checking in at reception, to the escorting to your private room/booth for your haircut and other grooming needs is just exceptional. Haircuts and other services are outstanding here and even your head gets washed and your neck massaged without you having to leave your chair. The barbers are meticulous and experienced at what they do and all come from Japan together with its overwhelming customs. Most barbers wear 3 piece suits and ties here and are well groomed and know their scissors and skills like the palm of their hands. Amazing is my experience every single time. After you pay and tip (as tips are customary/mandatory in NYC but considered rude in Japan) they open the door for you and your barber escorts you out to the street. It feels like a blissful ceremony every single time; One that you wish you can repeat...
Read moreI was in town for a few days and decided to treat myself to a trim and shave. I was staying at a hotel on Thompson Street and happened to walk by this place—glad I did. Booking was super easy, though the availability was a bit limited (not surprising for a great spot).
On the day of my appointment, I was welcomed by Keizo, my barber, who made the whole experience feel personal and relaxed. From start to finish, it was top-notch. Keizo’s attention to detail and skill were obvious right away. He started with a hair trim—super clean, precise, and exactly what I wanted.
Then came the shave, which honestly stole the show. I’m not exaggerating when I say he used at least five hot towels throughout. It felt luxurious, almost like a spa treatment.
I actually caught myself thinking, “Maybe I should move to NYC, just for this.” That’s how good it was. Can’t recommend this place enough—and if you can, book with Keizo. I’ll definitely be back next time...
