I was a long-time customer of Eco Laundry Chelsea, but will no longer be giving them my business. After receiving a white shirt back from the Eco Laundry team that was in worse condition than when I gave it to them to launder, the team was unwilling to problem solve with me to fix the shirt that they stained. The lead employee at Eco Laundry told me the shirt was “wearable” and refused to acknowledge the problem that his team stained my shirt, did not get it fully out, and then only got the shirt to a condition he deemed “wearable”. The shirt was “wearable” (albeit not clean) when I sent it in for his team to clean, but now it was in a worse condition with remnants of the stain still visible on the shirt.
The “wearable” excuse was disappointing for a team I worked with countless times. More disappointing was the combative and accusatory phone call I received from the lead employee, telling me I was taking advantage of him, by trying to have the shirt cleaned and returned to me in better condition than when I dropped it off. The lead employee was not constructive and did not address how we can problem solve so his customer was pleased. This experience was extremely disappointing and I hope the business does better by others, as I will not be supporting the business any longer. The lead employee has many times in the past made me feel like he did not have time to help me (which I have seen in other reviews, so know it is a pattern); however, this incident truly was too much for me to justify going back to...
Read moreSo many small businesses are struggling to survive right now because of COVID, so I thought I'd write a review for some of my neighborhood favorites, like this one.
I've lived in Chelsea for 27 years and I've been using The Eco Laundry Company for several years now. Pretty much since they opened. Every other launderer pales in comparison. I am a customer for life now. I'm very picky, and have been really happy with their service. They are not only eco friendly but reliable, straight forward and very accommodating.
When I was told they would be still be open, but for fewer hours. I was impressed with the precautions they put in place while remaining open at the beginning of the Covid crisis (unlike most laundry places in this neighborhood) and even though I have laundry piling up at the moment, I respected their decision to put the health of their staff and the community first by deciding to temporally close.
I've been miserable without them, but closing was the responsible thing to do and I will definitely, and happily, continue to support this great business -- one with an admirable conscience -- and will immediately return as a customer within seconds of reopening their doors.
If you have local businesses that you can't live without, say so! They really need our support now.
I wrote the same review on Yelp. It’s important to spread reviews to several different review sites in order to get the review seen by as many people...
Read moreI’ve been in my new building in Chelsea for a couple weeks now and I realized that I still had no idea where I was going to do my laundry. After a little browsing online I came across The Eco Laundry Company on 18th Street. (They also have a Gramercy location.) Right away I was pulled in by their informative website. It is rare to browse a business website feeling compelled to read all the bits of copy scattered about the page, but this one did. I was only left with a couple unanswered questions in regards to pick-up/delivery area, as well as how to separate out the dry cleaning from the laundry. I used the messenger chat-based service on their website and was pleasantly greeted by a human being named Jean on the other end. (If that was A.I. I would be seriously impressed!) It even had real time read receipts. I got the answers I needed quickly and was warmly welcomed to the neighborhood. Already looking forward to doing business here and haven’t even...
