Thriftway Pharmacy — Local services in New York

Needs improvement on their service offered!!!!!!!!!! July 10/ 2020

As NY resident not living in Manhattan and as a 5 year customer of this pharmacy (based on the closest proximity to my primary care clinic Ryan Chelsea; I have finally decided to comment on my extended experience with this pharmacy and most of its’ staff. Hoping that the effort and time invested in publishing this review is taken into consideration to improve their awareness, recognition and appreciation on the common practices currently given to customers that not only bring them business on an often basis but also are the reason why the pharmacy stays in business.

1.-Often times the Pharmacist gets annoyed by customers’ consultations in regards general inquiries: a) information on the type of medication provided, b) doctor’s lack of familiarity of placing digital prescriptions c) little patience shown with cases of limited government assistance insurance coverage.

2.-Lack of appreciation, respect and informality shown by one of the newest male young staff member at the cashier when handling pick up refills.

3.- Non-prior disclosure on any changes on the prescribed product versus the one given “based on your insurance coverage”, taking away the customer’s right to chose whether or not you want to accept the product provided.

4.-Not capable of updating customer’s file medications after receiving a verbal notification on discontinued medications and/or treatments. It is the customer’s responsibility of checking every medication/item given otherwise you will be electronically signing for medications you are no longer required to take.

5.-It is not part of the pharmacy common practice to show the customer what is inside the package of medications that are being picked up, but it is a common practice to electronically sign the pick up slip detailing what is inside the bag with a bunch of numbers instead of...

Please Read! I have been going here for just about 3years and have had numerous negative interaction’s with the owner and 2 different pharmacists who were doing their job as an extension of the owner. Thriftway cares about money not the patient period. I had insurance for 9/10 of the 3 years then lapsed and they banged me out top dollar on very common meds. Paid for my meds 3 months then never came back. This is only one issue I have had. One script is a controlled med and they never once allowed to fill even 1 day early even though law allows it. Would show them I still had my correct amount left but that didn’t matter. On top of that they have you come back if your 1 day early and if your not there it doesn’t get filled setting the next month back even more days. Even if you tell them fill it and I will be back in a few days they wait till you come back so in the system you will be much earlier for next months script making it impossible to fill. I m NOT talking OxyContin either which they should be strict on. Bottom line is for me they don’t care about you as a patient or person and only care about their bottom line. You can care about both but they choose not to. I would never recommend Thriftway and would even tell people to stay away and find another pharmacy that you can actually build a...

Thriftway Pharmacy is, without question, the premier pharmacy one should consider. The staff is exceptionally courteous, compassionate, and patient. My mother, a high-risk patient, requires critical medications to sustain her health. Having previously visited a large retail pharmacy, I was met with nothing but negativity and constant struggles, often spending days merely fighting to secure a single medication. Ultimately, I made the switch to this neighborhood pharmacy, and I have never looked back.

Joe, the pharmacist, and Diana, the pharmacy technician, are truly outstanding professionals—far beyond deserving of a mere five-star review. They consistently go above and beyond in assisting me, and I am deeply appreciative of their efforts. Both are exceptionally knowledgeable and adept at managing even the most challenging situations, from insurance matters to refills, prior authorizations, and even home delivery services.

As a result, I have entrusted the care of my entire family’s medications to Thriftway Pharmacy, and I will continue to share my experience with others to highlight the exceptional service this pharmacy provides.
