A Disappointing Failure in Management at the Long Island City Post Office Today, I witnessed an appalling incident at the United States Post Office in Long Island City, New York, that has left me deeply disturbed and outraged. A NYCHA employee launched a series of racially charged insults at a Black female postal worker who was diligently performing her duties. What is even more shocking than the reprehensible behavior of the NYCHA employee is the complete lack of intervention by the post office management.
The postal worker, subjected to an undeserved torrent of vitriol, handled the situation with extraordinary grace and professionalism. Despite being insulted and dehumanized, she remained calm, polite, and steadfast in her commitment to her job. Her ability to maintain her composure and uphold the highest standards of professionalism in the face of such hostility is commendable and deserves the highest praise.
However, my admiration for the postal worker is matched by my outrage at the management of the Long Island City post office. Not once did any member of the management team step in to de-escalate the situation or defend their employee from the unjust attack. The postal worker was left to manage this level of abuse on her own, a glaring failure of leadership and responsibility.
It is the duty of management to protect their employees and ensure a safe and respectful working environment. Their inaction in this instance is not only disappointing but utterly unacceptable. It sends a message that such behavior is tolerated and that employees cannot rely on their supervisors for support in times of need.
The resilience and professionalism shown by the postal worker are indeed remarkable, but she should never have been placed in a position where she had to face such hostility alone. The management’s failure to intervene speaks volumes about their disregard for the well-being and dignity of their staff.
I call on the Long Island City post office to address this issue immediately. The management team needs to be held accountable for their inaction, and measures must be put in place to ensure that no employee is ever left to face such abuse without support again. This incident should serve as a wake-up call for stronger policies and training on how to handle and prevent workplace harassment and discrimination.
To the postal worker, your strength and professionalism in the face of adversity are truly inspiring. You deserve to work in an environment where you are respected and protected, and I hope the necessary changes are made to ensure this becomes a reality.
In conclusion, while the courage of the postal worker is to be celebrated, the management’s failure to act is a serious issue that must be addressed. It is time for the Long Island City post office to step up and ensure that all employees can work in an environment free from discrimination...

But life gets in the way. On my way, there was a fire truck and an ambulance that caused traffic. My appointment was at 2:30. I made it to the office at 2:29. The person at the front window said I was late. I told her my appointment is at 2:30 she said that I had to arrive at 2:20, and that I missed my appointment. I reminded her that my appointment is at 2:30. She got another person who repeated the same information. I explained that there was traffic. She said I should have prepared for traffic. She then closed the windown on me and told her coworker to make me wait until 3. She didn't think I would hear but I did. I waited and then got told the line was 2 steps from where I was so I moved behide a couple that was getting their passport done. There is only one person for the passport. As I waited I overheard another couple having a problem. His wife had gotten to the location 10 minutes early just like they had said but he came later to meet her. He explained his situation and they told him "no you two need to come here 10 minutes early together, one of you can't arrive early, it has to be both. Your appointment is canceled and you have to reschedule." They left clearly very upset. I waited as they kept taking care of the couple in front of me. The only person for the passports was told to take lunch. Leaving the couple waiting. After they finished. I waited to be called. It was 3:20 now, when they finally took notice, (the other two who told me I was late I assume left). This new person told me I couldn't wait inside and had to leave. I explained that I was here to submit a passport. She said "we closed the passport applications at 2:45" I told her "oh I wasn't told. I was just told to wait. If I had been told to make another appointment I would have. But I was told nothing but to wait. Thank you and have a great day." I could have been told to reschedule from the start but instead...
Read moreJust moved our business to this area and first two orders shipped to us via USPS had issues: First package I got a notification from the seller of an issue with delivery; USPS tracking showed "Notice Left (No Authorized Recipient Available)", but we were there all day and so was our staff and there was no notice left. Called the 800 number on that Wednesday and they informed us the local office indicates the re-attempt will happen on Saturday. I explained we are business that operates Mon-Fri. I questioned why not deliver the next day? I was instructed to call the local office. NO ONE answers the phone, i tried for hours. I started trying different numbers based on the number i was given (i.e. increment or decrement the last four digits of the number) and finally got the voice mail of a supervisor, who's outgoing message indicates to call the main local office number if there are questions about delivery and/or urgent issues. I left my message with the supervisor and never got a call back. Fortunately, the package was arrived the next day.
Second package; USPS tracking states "Undeliverable as Addressed". Same vendor, same address, no difference. I called and called and called. No one picks up the phone. I left another message with supervisor. given my first experience and what people have written on this site, i'm not hopeful, which has given me cause to write this review in hopes others do the same to help bring attention to changes needed to better serve our community.
I just don't understand how the local post offices provides the 800 number for customer service, but when you call the 800 number they tell you to call the local office. There needs to be better national oversight and better collaboration.
That said, I believe this local office is not reflective of other local offices that are managed more...
