The cakes are okay, but the actual store is not suitable for dine-in, even though it is set up like a cafe.
PSA: No bathrooms, even for paying customers.
I had recently enjoyed their cake at a friend's party, so made plans to meet my friend at Taste Creme for afternoon tea. We ordered our lattes and lychee-rose cake to share, and then, being 9 months pregnant, I asked if there was a bathroom I could use.
There's no customer bathroom. Both employees were very dismissive and told me repeatedly to go to the deli next door, where I "could use the deli bathroom if I bought something."
I would absolutely understand if we hadn't been paying customers, or if this was a take-out only bakery. However, to be told that I needed to go to another establishment and purchase additional items after having already spent money to dine-in at Taste Creme (and the lack of empathy from the employees) definitely left a bad taste in my mouth. An explanation and/or a better solution (i.e. if there was a free public restroom nearby they could have pointed me to) would have...
Read moreI’ll be honest here and say that I visited this place twice. The first time I had a decent experience. I believe I ordered some cookies or something to go. The reason I ordered to go it because although there are seats inside, it’s so gloomy in there, and there there are boxes overflowing from a divider which makes it feel like you’d be eating next to a cluttered mess on the other side. I didn’t really think much of it because I figured they just opened or something. The cookies were ok. Nothing out of this world. Second time I came in they seemed like they were out of every beverage. I asked for hot chocolate, but they were out. I asked for drip coffee, but they were out. Paid $16 for a little cake that ended up tasting pretty mediocre and dry (which sucks because it looked really good). Probably would’ve let it go if the girl who was telling me they were out of everything didn’t seem so bothered by me asking for beverages I had no other way of knowing they were out of, except by asking. Wish I could say I had a great experience, but I...
Read moreKatrina at Taste Crème is the absolute best! She made our wedding cake for our October 11th wedding at Stone House on Staten Island. We weren’t sure exactly what we wanted at first, but she worked with us to refine our ideas and helped create the most beautiful autumn-inspired cake — it was even better than we imagined! We got to taste four individual small cakes during the tasting, and we ended up going with the pandan strawberry — such a perfect, flavorful choice that everyone loved! She also asked us about anyone with dietary restrictions and was able to make a separate gluten free cake for the small amount of guests who were gluten-free. We are so thankful we found them- they truly managed to make our wedding day that much more special. Don’t hesitate to select Taste Crème for your wedding cake (and other...
