Upper West Spa — Local services in New York

Today, I had yet another fabulous facial appointment with Marta! I have been coming to the Upper West Spa (UWS) for several years, and even bring my 17 year old daughter for services with Marta. We had tried having my daughter get waxed at several different places, but until Marta, my daughter would never allow anyone BUT Marta to wax her! We both love Marta! I don't know what Freya G. is talking about in her review of Marta and the service she received by her, but Marta is the sweetest, most pleasant, most gentle and absolutely the most professional aesthetician! I cannot see or even imagine Marta EVER treating someone as Freya G. described. I really cannot believe anything in her review! I would never, ever hesitate asking for Marta, and would ALWAYS recommend her! And if my 17 year old would only allow Marta to perform waxing and facial services on her, that should tell you something! Marta is the BEST! As far as Freya G. bringing her dog to the UWS...I never saw or heard of anyone being allowed to have a dog in a spa! A spa and/or nail salon is supposed to be two of the most tranquil places, that even a service dog would not be needed at. If you are someone in need of having a service dog in one of those establishments, then perhaps you should have those services done in your own home. It's not appropriate to bring a dog to a spa or nail salon, just like it's not appropriate to bring a dog into a supermarket or food establishment, where the atmosphere for everyone is to be clean and sanitary! Bottom line...dogs are simply not appropriate in...

I had a facial here in late November/early December, done by Joanna. I can honestly tell you it was the best facial I have ever received. I have very sensitive skin and it tends to react to new products or anything out of my standard and very ordinary skincare regime. Joanna inspected my skin upon doing anything to it and also asked me a variety of questions ranging from diet and exercise, stress levels, cleanliness, etc. to get to know it better. Joanna then treated my skin in a few different ways. She explained everything as she was doing it and the purpose of what she was doing or applying. It was very informative, while still being extremely relaxing. Typically after a facial, I'm subjected to hide since my face is red from the extraction, but have had the extractions done in the middle of the treatment, I was able to confidently go to dinner afterwards without worrying whether or not I would be all blotchy. Not only did my skin feel clean and wonderful but it as glowing! It did have your standard reaction the next few days, as it was purging all of the toxins, but it subdued quickly.
